Latin America is a diverse continent that integrates indigenous civilizations, European colonial culture, African slave heritage, and Asian immigrant influences. This diversity has long been internalized as the deep cultural genes of this land. Oswaldo Vegas is one of the most dynamic and influential artists in post-war Latin America, and he is also an important bridge between the post-war avant-garde art circles of Venezuela and Paris. His artistic creation is not only nourished and inspired by the European modernist artistic trend, but also deeply rooted in the multicultural cultural tradition of Latin American civilization.

Vegas initially studied medicine but later abandoned it for art. Through in-depth research on the national cultural heritage, he found his own artistic language. At the same time, he actively participated in the development of modern art in both local and international contexts. His ideas are based on the amphibious principle: walking on both land and water, one side is the modern artistic vein learned from Europe, and the other side is the deep-rooted local historical roots in the Americas. He actively guides the original power and cultural memory of the homeland between figurative and abstract, modern and prehistoric.

This exhibition is presented in four sections in chronological order, covering Vegas's seventy-year creative career. Each period showcases his extraordinary creative vision, inspiring us to re-think the single modernist narrative under the Eurocentric perspective and its so-called "universalism", and exploring how it is accepted, translated by artists from all over the world, and refracted and regenerated in their own cultural traditions.

Oswaldo Vegas Retrospective Exhibition - Nothing Exists Beyond the Heart

The exhibition "Unfinished Future - The 10th Anniversary of the Yearbook of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting" has been launched at the Guangdong Art Museum. The exhibition originated from the work accumulation of the "Yearbook of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting" project from 2016 to 2026, and it is a phased summary and systematic presentation of the academic review work of this project.

Over the past decade, the "Yearbook of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting" has been deeply rooted in the scene of contemporary Chinese ink painting creation. With the core work of document archiving, academic sorting and exhibition promotion, it has systematically recorded the development process of contemporary ink painting and established a stable and continuous annual academic research system. The project has organized over twenty academic exhibitions in total, published twelve professional academic catalogues, collected and sorted out the creative achievements, academic trajectories and on-site documents of nearly a thousand ink artists of different generations, and has also carried out cooperation with many domestic art galleries. In 2024, the project "Forty Years of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting 1985-2024" was funded by the National Art Fund and jointly organized and implemented by the "Yearbook of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting" and the Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts.
This exhibition will showcase over 100 groups of ink-wash paintings by more than 90 artists. It will be connected by three main exhibition halls, highlighting the development over the past decade. Additionally, it will feature five embedded thematic exhibitions and a corridor document archive area, integrating work display, topic research, and archive archiving. The exhibition first traces the formation process of the concept of "contemporary ink painting", and sorts out the cultural context from traditional transformation to diverse experiments. Then, it directly confronts the realistic predicaments faced by contemporary ink painting, analyzes the identity dislocation it encounters between the local traditional evaluation system and the international art context, and at the same time introduces the local perspective of ink painting in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, forming a dialogue between regional practice and national narrative. Based on this, the exhibition further turns to the experiment of medium expansion, exploring the creative path of "boundary dissolution rather than essence dissolution" in ink wash painting. Through the practices of predecessors, middle-aged and young artists, it presents the ongoing artistic exploration.

The exhibition has no intention of providing a standard answer to the future of ink wash painting. Instead, it unfolds the achievements, differences and experiments of the past decade, preserving history through documents and inspiring critical thinking through works. The so-called "unfinished future" precisely points to the continuous evolution and undetermined state of ink wash painting, expecting viewers to jointly reflect on the present and future of ink wash art within history and the scene.

Looking Back at Today - Chen Jialing Art Exhibition This exhibition, titled "Looking Back at Today - Chen Jialing Art Exhibition", is structured around six major sections: "Wandering, New Rhythm, Enlightening the Mind, Bone Method, Beyond the Form, and Returning to the Tools". It systematically presents the complete exploration path of Mr. Chen Jialing's artistic practice, ranging from brushwork techniques to Eastern philosophy. The exhibition not only showcases the concentrated achievements of Mr. Chen Jialing at the age of 80, but also initiates a profound dialogue on the contemporary transformation of traditional Chinese aesthetics.

From the clear lotus on paper to the iridescent colors in the kiln transformation, from traditional brushwork to digital light and shadow, Chen Jialing has always adhered to the creed of "Looking Up, Winning by Unarmedness over Armedness, Holistic and Seamless, and Flowing with the Great Transformation". He has constructed an aesthetic system belonging to this era by balancing tradition and innovation. This exhibition not only concisely presents Mr. Chen Jialing's lifelong pursuit but also opens a door for viewers to explore the depths of Eastern philosophy - it enables us to see that true innovation never departs from tradition; instead, it boldly breaks through within the deepening of Chinese painting traditions, giving birth to the vibrant atmosphere of this era.

Still Looking at Today - Chen Jialing Art Exhibition

"Everything Begins with the Heart - Zeng Mi's Art Exhibition" is the first major solo exhibition held by Zeng Mi, an artist who grew up, pursued art, and conducted long-term creative work in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region. This exhibition showcases nearly 100 pieces (groups) of works, using his decades of calligraphy and painting creations as a thread to look back on Zeng Mi's long exploration between traditional brushwork, life experience, and personal perception. As an important artist in the modern transformation process of Chinese painting since the 1980s, Zeng Mi, based on regional cultural context and fieldwork, did not seek modernity by departing from tradition, but rather continuously explored the possible language of Chinese painting in the realm of brushwork, composition, and writing.

The exhibition is divided into four sections: "Wandering in the Landscape", "Idle Pleasures in the World", "Expressing My Thoughts in Writing", and "Returning to the True Essence of Chaos". It unfolds from landscapes, flowers and birds, figures, calligraphy, and the artist's new works in his later years, presenting the multi-faceted appearance of his artistic language from brushwork and landscape, daily pleasures to writing practice, allowing painting, writing, thought, and life experience to mutually reference each other.

Presenting Zeng Mi's works in the Lingnan artistic context will place a kind of Chinese painting modernity that is different from Lingnan experience in the art history scene of Guangdong for comparison and viewing. Both paths jointly point to an unresolved issue: How can traditional Chinese painting remain open in modern history and continuously generate new possibilities.
