Caring for the planet is a natural extension of Hyatt’s purpose—to care for people so they can be their best. Below are specific examples of environmental stewardship at our hotel.
Overview
- We are 2024 Green Globe Certified Member, dedicated towards environmental sustainability performance.
- We are BREEAM Excellent certified, with one of the highest scores of any hotel in the Netherlands.
- We use Hyatt EcoTrack to track sustainability metrics including greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water, waste & recycling.
- Botany, Sustainability & Wellbeing are the three pillars that guide us in all we do and also inspire our local activities for our guests.
- Our interior vertical garden was awarded “Interior Landscaping of the Year 2018” for bringing our sustainable vision to life in a luxurious, aesthetic way.
- Our Green Team ensures the continuous implementation and improvement of our sustainable projects, emphasizing environmental responsibility.

Carbon Emissions and Water
- Our electrical energy is 100% Dutch wind, provided by large windmills in strategic locations around the Netherlands.
- Our award-winning vertical garden act as a carbon dioxide scrubber, generating more oxygen to energize our guests and colleagues.
- With a geothermal system, we use groundwater to help cool the building in summer and heat it in winter.
- Charge your electric car in our garage, or take advantage of our partnership with Travel Electric, the first 100% electric taxi company in the Netherlands
- Complimentary filtered water taps & infused water stations in event spaces and lobby to reduce single-bottle use.
- The building's sustainable design and construction result in significant eco-friendly benefits, such as:
- 40% greater energy efficiency compared to other hotels.
- 35% lower CO2 emissions than other hotels.
- Use of ground source heat pumps for heating and cooling, with energy stored 180 meters underground.
- Energy-efficient A-label elevators.
- Rooms fitted with LED and motion sensor lights to minimize energy consumption.
- The building's middle facade, covered with soft, green, leafy surfaces, aids in managing and absorbing stormwater.
- Plastic bottles are replaced with glass bottles, preventing the disposal of 500 plastic water bottles per week.

Waste and Circularity
- Our Meetings are free of single-use plastic!
- You can choose a Zero-Waste lunch option for your event.
- We do not use plastic straws at our bar.
- We’re the first hotel in the Netherlands to upcycle wine bottles into drinking glasses.
- The Netherlands boasts one of the cleanest tap waters. We filter and bottle all water we serve, saving over 20,000 bottles per year. Hydration stations are available for guests
- Watering cans outside event areas for recycling unused water into plant care.
- Waste separation is in place for all rooms and events
- Kitchen waste is repurposed into biogas and biodiesel.
- To combat food waste, we utilize Orbisk, a technology that tracks and analyzes food waste through image recognition and data dashboards, enabling effective waste management.
- We participate in the Too Good To Go program where local residents can collect excess food that would otherwise be discarded.
- We've installed tea dispensers in our canteen to reduce waste and eliminate the need for tea bags, enhancing our waste reduction efforts.
- In our restrooms, we use The Good Roll, a recycled toilet paper.
- All paper is made of recycled material and of course is recycled itself.
- The linen for our baby cribs have been recycled from regular bed linen – washed, dyed and sewn by our own laundry attendants to avoid throwing the damaged linen away.

Our Food Philosophy
- We think plant-based is a must, not an alternative. 69% of our menu is vegan, vegetarian, or can be made so.
- We adhere to responsible sourcing by using only ASC/MSC certified seafood, organic free-range eggs, local grass-fed beef, and supporting local businesses.
- Our fish sourcing is exclusively line-caught, primarily from the local North Sea. We follow a nose-to-tail policy, buying whole fish and utilizing as much as possible to minimize waste.
- Our food is transparent and are 100% natural, sourced as locally as possible to reduce footprint.
- Our cleaning practices are environmentally friendly, using only eco-certified cleaning products.
- We offer Pharmacopia amenities in all guestrooms, made from natural, organic & sustainably sourced ingredients which are vegan, fair trade & cruelty-free.

Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is located in the Plantage neighbourhood—full of parks, the Hortus Botanicus, and many canals.
It doesn’t get much greener than exploring Amsterdam on one of our hotel bikes, or from the water on one of the electric boats from our friends at Sloepdelen—on the canal right behind our hotel!
