The Grand Hyatt Melbourne has lost its flair and is charging too much for restricted services

This was once a grand Hyatt, those times have passed. Currently this Hyatt is undergoing through a change. The hotel pool-CLOSED for years. The hotel does not have a PARKING facility. The restaurant staff is untrained in international customer service manners. The nicest thing at The Grand Hyatt Melbourne is "Jimmy" the kindest bellman with the nicest intentions when welcoming guests. The reception staff at the Priority Hyatt check-in is unprofessional and are not working in the best interest for the guests by explaining the current restrictions, unless you ask.

    Not as expected

Unfortunately, my stay was quite disappointing, particularly given the standard I expected from the hotel. The check-in experience was probably the biggest issue. The staff came across as quite obnoxious, and honestly, I felt a bit like Julia Roberts in *Pretty Woman* — I genuinely didn’t think people were treated like that in real life. I’ll acknowledge that when I arrived, I had been volunteering all day at a dance competition for my daughter, had a cold and probably looked like a complete mess. However, that really shouldn’t determine how a guest is treated. I had also called the day before specifically to ask whether I could add breakfast to my booking and pre-pay for it, thinking this would make the morning easier. When I arrived, it seemed there was no note of this whatsoever, and I had to explain the situation again. It was eventually sorted, but the whole experience was unnecessarily difficult. I really don’t understand why simply adding breakfast to the room and taking payment for it needed to be such an ordeal. There were also several issues with the room. The first time I used the shampoo, the pump broke off the top of the bottle. The bath took an incredibly long time to fill because the water pressure was so poor. It also would have been nice to have bath products available, rather than just one bar of soap by the sink and the fixed shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers in the shower. The hairdryer in the room was broken, so I called reception to request another one. It took approximately 30 minutes for it to arrive. By that point, my hair was almost dry and I had already had to straighten it using my own hair straightener. There were also strange noises coming from the ceiling overnight and in the morning, which sounded like pipes or running water. Breakfast was another disappointment. When we were seated, we were told that gluten-free toast could be prepared if required, so we asked for some. We were told it would take 5–6 minutes, which seemed completely reasonable given how busy breakfast was. I assumed the toast would be prepared and brought to the table promptly so it would still be hot. Instead, it took around 20 minutes to arrive, and by then the toast was cold, rubbery and essentially inedible. Unfortunately, this also meant that the food I had taken from the buffet to put on the toast was cold by the time it arrived. There were some positives. The room itself was clean, and the coffee machine was excellent — the coffee was genuinely delicious. I wasn't sure whether the coffee pods were complimentary or part of the minibar, though, as there was no clear signage and they were all stored together. Overall, there were simply too many small issues throughout the stay, and the poor customer service at check-in really set the tone. For the price and standard I expected, I left feeling disappointed rather than looked after.

    Funny business

The hotel is fine but charges appeared on my credit card that were not mine. And then the security deposit has been taken up by the hotel after they reversed charges. (And they reversed the wrong charges)

    Melbourne stay

A very welcoming hotel with attentive staff that were highly supportive. We had been offerred a late check out, which helped make the stay so much more relaxing. The club lounge service and food/drinks was top notch and the food and vide at Collins kitchen was brilliant.

    Better than Expected

The Grand Hyatt at Melbourne, Australia exceeded all expectations. The morning buffet was first class and then some, the rooms were well appointed and the staff went out of their way to help us.

    Perfect location and comfortable stay

We spent a night in the city while visiting friends and had a really lovely stay. The location is fantastic, close to everything we wanted to see and do. The hotel has a beautiful atmosphere, and having a room with views over the city made the stay even more enjoyable. Breakfast was included and was well above what you would normally expect from a standard hotel breakfast, with a great selection to choose from. We were very impressed, especially with the fresh juices. A wonderful stay and a hotel we would happily return to.

Disappointing Stay – Renovations and Serious Safety Issue

Our stay was extremely disappointing. The hotel had renovation works taking place during our visit, and the constant noise made it impossible to relax and enjoy our stay. Guests should be clearly informed of major works before booking, as this significantly affected our experience. Even more concerning was a serious safety issue in our room. When I switched on the bathroom light, it exploded, sending glass across the bathroom and leaving us without a working light. It was shocking, frightening, and could easily have resulted in an injury. This is not something any guest should have to experience in a hotel room. Although maintenance was eventually sent to fix the problem after we reported it, the fact that such a hazardous issue existed in the first place is unacceptable. Between the disruptive renovation noise and the dangerous condition of the bathroom light, our stay fell well below the standard we expected and paid for. Unfortunately, we left feeling frustrated and disappointed.

    Special becomes ordinary

No world of hyatt welcome. 1 ply toilet paper. No facial tissues. Got charged for valet parking (never used the car whilst checked in) considering the room we stayed at had lounge access.

Dont rest on your laurels Mr. Hyatt.

Great hotel. BUT ........ how in this day & age does a Room not include a 'Smart TV' with access to subscription services?

High end experience but maybe choose a cocktail bar in the town

The room was on the 25th floor. Well appointed with quality bathroom fixtures. Bed was very comfortable and a nice touch was a late checkout when the hotel had a problem with a Mastercard Credit card. Always helps to travel with two separate credit platforms No gym and no pool available was disappointing and RuCO seemed very overpriced for late night cocktails versus numerous outside options in Flinders and Collins Lane (within 200 metres)

    Top notch!

No doubt about staying here, just right at collin's street and chill vibes. We got there a little too early but they managed to sort us out.

    Great but short experience

Great location, near theatres and good restaurants. We were only on an overnight staycay, so didn't make use of all amenities however, it was our grand daughters 6th birthday, and she loves buffet breakfasts; this one is excellent and expansive. $50 per adult, but well worth the money. We had a "corner" room which was great; the bathroom was huge and well appointed, the room was very comfortable.
