Alila Seminyak Seasalt Journey

Seasalt Journey—The Salt & Tradition Trail

Never take traditional sea salt for granted as you visit the volcanic black-sand beach of Kusamba in East Bali to discover ancient methods of salt farming. This technique using sun and wind evaporation has been preserved and passed down through generations. Watch as salt farmers gather seawater in buckets to pour over finely raked sand and begin the process of making Balinese fleur de sel (flower of salt). After spending the first part of the day witnessing this time-honored art form, head to Tenganan village to see another tradition—the celebrated weaving process of making Gringsing cloth. Wind down the day of discovery with a serene coastal lunch prepared with freshly harvested salt and just-picked ingredients at the Seasalt restaurant, located at our sister resort Alila Manggis.

Join local farmers on the black-sand beaches of Kusamba and learn how seawater is transformed into Balinese fleur de sel using time-honored techniques.

Alila Seminyak Mangku In Temple

Spirit of Serenity—A Sacred Temple Ritual

Begin your day with a quiet step into Balinese tradition at the in-house Segara Temple, where centuries-old customs still live through the care of local landowners. In this sacred space you'll craft vibrant offerings rich with meaning and intention—Canang Sari, small handwoven palm-leaf baskets filled with flowers and incense placed daily at shrines, and Gebogan, towering arrangements of fruit and flowers carried on the heads of Balinese women during temple ceremonies. Led by Bapak Mangku, the temple’s spiritual guide, take part in a Melukat water blessing, releasing what no longer serves you and welcoming a sense of clarity and peace. The experience closes with the tying of the Tridatu bracelet, a powerful symbol of protection and spiritual connection. This is more than a ritual—it’s a day of stillness, insight and quiet transformation.

Temple Awakening
Explore Alila’s own Segara Temple, where stories of the land and spiritual legacy are shared with care and meaning.

Offerings with Intention
Create two meaningful offerings: Canang Sari, daily floral blessings of gratitude, and Gebogan, ceremonial towers of fruit and flowers made for temple rituals.

Waters of Renewal
Participate in a Melukat water blessing led by Bapak Mangku, the temple priest, to cleanse and recalibrate body, mind and spirit.

A Thread of Connection
Conclude the ritual with the tying of a Tridatu bracelet—three sacred threads worn for spiritual balance and protection.
