Ancient alleys and quadrangle courtyards dating back to the Qing Dynasty, restored as traditional stores, teahouses and restaurants. Sample local snacks and street food, shop for souvenirs and visit the ‘Experiencing House of Old Chengdu Life’.

Kuanzhai Alley

Award-winning open-air development built around six restored heritage buildings including the 2,000-year-old Buddhist Daci Temple. The pedestrianised area includes international flagship stores, restaurants, a cinema and a 4,000-qm bookstore.

Taikoo Li Chengdu

Successful export of Hong Kong’s nightlife district of the same name. Purpose-built, 43,000-sqm entertainment hotspot on the Jinjiang riverbank comprising over 30 high-end bars, restaurants, nightclubs, music venues and stores.

Lan Kwai Fong Chengdu

Tranquil 24-acre park, museum and National Heritage site in honor of the Tang Dynasty poet who wrote 240 poems here during the peak of his creativity. View statues, gardens, a reconstruction of Du’s thatched cottage and his work on wood carvings.

Du Fu Thatched Cottage

Famous 92-acre research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. Walk around the enclosures and view pandas of all ages. Visit early when the pandas are feeding and at their most active, and also to avoid the crowds.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

One of the birthplaces of Taoism, and with the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a Unesco World Heritage site. There are cable cars taking visitors to the summit, but hiking is recommended. Visit palaces, caves and temples and enjoy the verdant views.

Mount Qingcheng

37,000-sqm complex dedicated to Emperor Liubei and his military strategist Zhuge Liang (later Marquis Wu) of the 3rd century. Explore temples, tombs and the famous Tablet of Triple Success, then visit Jinli Ancient Street for snacks and souvenirs.

Temple of Marquis and Jinli Street

Largest city square in southwest China (over 88,000 sqm) and the city’s geographical center. Surrounded by important civic venues including Jincheng Art Palace, Chengdu Museum New Hall and People’s Park. Subdued during the day but livelier at night.

Tianfu Square

Bustling, pedestrianized ‘Hundred Year Gold Street’ is Chengdu’s most famous commercial area, home to over 700 boutiques, street stalls, department stores, malls and cafés. Be sure to sample delicious street snacks such as ‘dragon wontons’.

Chunxi Road

Disused factories converted into an art and music complex. Industrial photo backdrops, outdoor sculptures, cafes, bars, eateries and an Imax cinema.

Chengdu Eastern Memory

210,000-sqm, nine-floor mall, home to over 600 premium brands as well as restaurants, art installations, an Imax theatre, an ice rink, a chapel and a sculpture garden on Level 7.
