  • Nothing special or unique; has a lot of potential though.

I'm a Hyatt regular/member, and although I'm not a hotel snob, there is nothing compelling or special about this Hyatt; the location is okay but not really close to other things in Monterey, nor is it really a "resort" type property that you just want to hang out at. On top of that, the whole property, and especially the rooms and lobby/restaurant area, are in desperate need of renovation. On the plus side, things were quiet and clean, so no complaints in that regard; it's just that this was a very underwhelming hotel.

  • Short but great stay at Hyatt Regency Monterey

It is beautiful! Unfortunately, a very quick stay so we didn't get to take advantage of all that is offered but it was great!

  • Fantastic experience at Hyatt.Highly recommend

I don’t remember the names of the guest service team members who gave me the welcome chocolate gift and drink vouchers, but I truly appreciate the thoughtful gesture. Thank you so much for the drink vouchers to celebrate our wedding anniversary—it really made our stay special. We also really enjoyed the food at the restaurant and spending time by the fire pit. My son had a wonderful time making marshmallows there. We’re very happy with the service and will definitely recommend your hotel to all our friends. This is exactly why I always choose Hyatt for my vacations.

Well maintained grounds, kids loved the patio games, fire pits and s'mores. Juicer at breakfast was a big hit. Very good service.

  • A nice family-friendly resort in Monterey

We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency Monterey. We were only there for a short time, but appreciated the different food options, including very casual dining out by the pool/game area... which was perfect for us traveling with our 3 year old. The gym/spa area was a really nice perk, as well as the pools and "hammock garden". This hotel was 100% booked when we were staying and we didn't have the most ideal location within the resort, but we were close enough to all the amenities and the room itself was clean and comfortable. We will be back and maybe we will stay for longer next time around, this was just a quick stopover on our way to another destination this time around, but we love the Monterey area.

  • The noise, noise, noise

DO NOT go to this hotel if you are looking for relaxation. It caters to conferences and families, and has no truly quiet rooms. It was torturous for us.

This property was fantastic! Multiple fire pits and pools to enjoy. Games outside for children and families to play. Food at breakfast was delicious. Location of the hotel is great for exploring beaches and downtown Monterey.

  • Weekend get away

We have been to HR Monterey a few times and have never been upgraded to a suite. To be fair, we always come in the summer when hotel is at full capacity. Breakfast this time was ok. I remember it was better a few years ago. Rooms are decent . They do not have the luxurious feeling to it. Over all it's the only Hyatt in the Monterey/Carmel area.

  • Checked us out a night early

The hotel property is beautiful. Nice fireplaces, hammocks and quad area with games for kids to play. My daughter loved ping pong. I also liked the coffee shop and the roam service option to get food delivered to anywhere you are on site. I would say that most staff was overall friendly. My husband and I had drinks next to fireplace near bar, which was really nice and cozy. Our room was a little of a let down. I was expecting it to be a lot nicer but didn’t really match up the lobby area. It was a lot smaller than any of the Hyatt rooms we’ve stayed in and the worst view we’ve had ver had. Room also had popcorn ceiling which makes it look out dated. The floors in our room and above were creaky so we could hear guest above walking and on the bed. I had requested quiet room at check in but we were put right next to door to enter hallway and elevator so it was pretty noisy. We used points for two nights (Thurs-Friday and added another night (Wednesday) which we paid for. On Friday. First night we got there my husbands key stopped working so he had to go back to the lobby to get new one. On Friday I received an email saying on checkout online, we had already left the room so I called the front desk bc we still had one more night booked. I spoke with a lady she checked reservation and said we were good to check out Saturday as booked. I came back to our room around 330 pm just as cleaning lady was finishing up. She said “you’re staying one more night, I had to call and check on when we saw all your bags”. I didn’t think much of it. When she finished I went to use my key and it didn’t work. I called up to front desk told them room number and he said bell service would be down to help me and bring new key. Bell service came down very quickly, she let me in and said she would bring me new set of keys. I put my daughter down for nap and the new keys never came. Around 6pm we stopped at lobby on way to dinner to get new keys. I told receptionist my room number and information. When he looked up the room number he was very confused and said that we had checked out and that room had a different name assigned to it. He called over his manager and she was in computer with him for a few minutes and they were whispering to each other and said “he hasn’t checked in yet”. So somehow we were checked out a night early and they had already assigned the room to someone else with us still in the room. They did not explain what happen or even really apologize. I found this mix up 100% unacceptable. Had the new guest checked in would he have been assigned a key to our room where my children were napping and walked right in? It is absolutely ridiculous I called front desk when i saw email, cleaning called front desk, I called front desk when key didn’t work, spoke with bell service when she let me into room and it took me to go in person on the 5th human to figure out there was a HUGE problem. How did none of the previous 4 people who looked up our room did not see an issue. Again, no big apology or explanation. The manager did ask if we used points which made me feel less than because it was a “free” room. We used A LOT of our points to stay here and did not feel like a valued guest whatsoever. I think had this happened to another guest it probably would of been handled differently. It was a horrible feeling and I would hope this doesn’t happen to another guest in future. Once our key was working again we finished up the last night but the whole experience really put a damper on my spirit. And just as reference I have only ever written one other negative review in my life and I am almost 40 years old. So I am not someone who just complains about everything. I know it’s a hotel, I know you cannot control everything but in this case, it was something that could have been controlled. Especially when multiple people were contacted about the room. Heaven forbid a random man comes into my room, thinking it’s his room, with a key you gave him, when my children are sleeping.

Suzy, Thank you for sharing your detailed experience at our property. It’s truly heartwarming to hear that your daughter enjoyed the ping pong and that our cozy fireplace ambiance, along with the convenience of our coffee shop and room service, added joy to your stay. Your feedback about your room’s size, view, outdated features, and noise levels is deeply valued, as it helps us understand where enhancements are needed to ensure every space feels as inviting as our common areas. The mix-up with your early checkout and key issues is sincerely regrettable, and your concerns about the lack of clear communication or resolution are taken to heart, as ensuring every guest feels secure and valued is paramount. We hope to welcome you and your family back for a stay that fully restores your confidence and creates lasting, joyful memories. Heidi Bettencourt Director of Sales & Marketing
