Hotel Policies

Guest code of ethics and conduct

To operate effectively and safely for all guests, staff, and surrounding environment, Hyatt Regency Malta has the following procedures which all guests are expected to follow.

Check-in

All guests must prove their identity at check-in to the reception staff by submitting their Passport or Identity Card. The hotel has the right to refuse accommodation to a guest who fails to produce the correct or required identification.

Guest behaviour

Hyatt Regency Malta asks its guests to behave with respect and consideration toward hotel employees, other guests, and persons at the hotel. Threats, harassment, and discrimination are not permitted. At times, our staff may be required to issue further instructions to guests. Hotel guests are expected to comply with any reasonable request made by staff members. Aggressive or threatening behaviour towards staff will not be tolerated at any time.

The hotel reserves the right to deny access or remove any guest who engages in inappropriate, aggressive, or unsafe behaviour.

Any and all legal violations that occur at the hotel will be reported to the police.

Child Protection and Safety

Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. Any form of abuse or exploitation of children will be reported to the authorities in accordance with Maltese law and international child protection standards.

Safety & Emergency Procedures

Guests are advised to familiarise themselves with emergency exits and the location of fire extinguishers and alarms in their rooms and common areas. In case of emergency, please follow the hotel’s evacuation procedures and any instructions given by hotel staff.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed in the guest rooms or anywhere inside the hotel. This applies to cigarettes, vapes, and similar. In case of unauthorized smoking, there is a charge of €XXX. All guest rooms and public areas of the hotel are fitted with smoke detectors. It is forbidden to cover, remove, tamper with, or otherwise deactivate smoke detectors in the room. A charge of €250 will be issued if this is not followed. Charges incurred due to damage, smoking violations, or tampering with safety equipment will be added to the guest’s bill and must be settled prior to check-out.

Prohibited items

Items that generate heat or produce an open flame are not permitted in the Hotel. This includes hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. Kettles should not be left in the socket without any water in it. Electric devices should not be left in the socket unattended.

It is not permitted to carry any weapons, explosives or other items that presents a risk of harm to persons or property in the hotel.

Waste disposal

Guests are encouraged to respect the hotel and natural environment by not littering. Waste should be disposed in the appropriate bins, located in guest rooms and in multiple locations in public areas.

Animals and wildlife

Animal interactions may form a significant part of our guests’ time in Malta. We acknowledge our responsibility to offer only experiences with animal interaction that do not result in exploitation or harm.

Guests must not engage in trapping, feeding, or disturbance of urban or coastal wildlife (e.g., pigeons, geckos, seabirds). In case of any interaction with injured animals in or around the Hotel, guests should inform a member of staff immediately.

Guests are advised to refrain from activities such as feeding or touching wild or released animals, picking plants, removing seeds or touching corals. Any wild animal that allows contact with humans, e.g. when it is held, photographed, ridden or petted, has been conditioned to do so.

Purchasing of any souvenirs that are made from wildlife products or other threatened natural materials including turtle shells, feathers and ivory is discouraged. Many of these products support unsustainable practices such as poaching, and are illegal under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Culture and Heritage

At Hyatt Regency Malta, we place great importance on protecting historical and cultural heritage, and on encouraging our guests to act responsibly during their visits.

Cultural Sites

Many of Malta’s famous monuments and sites have profound religious and cultural significance. Remember that temples, churches, mosques and other places of worship are for the believers of these faiths and religions, first and foremost. Tourists who visit them are guests and respect should be the guiding principle behind all of our guest’s actions.

Guests are encouraged to conduct research on best behaviour practices and norms before visiting any of these sites. Our front office team is available to provide additional information and answers any questions.

Artefacts

An artefact is any object that was made, used, or changed by humans and holds cultural, historical, or scientific importance. Artefacts hold cultural significance as they hold information on how people lived, believed, and how they interacted with the world around them.

Guests visiting any sites of cultural or historic significance must refrain from touching or disturbing these artefacts. Guests who are interested in purchasing artefacts, must follow ethical and responsible procurement methods, ensuring that the items are acquired legally and that the supply chain does not exploit people, animals, or the environment.

Natural Sites

When visiting natural sites, one should behave in a way that minimises negative impacts on the surrounding nature. Guests must not destroy vegetation, pick wild flowers, collect mushrooms or fruit or disturb the natural cycles of animals.

If there are no designated bins to dispose of waste, collect and return with the garbage generated during the visit to these areas, including organics, as otherwise it could damage the diet of the native wildlife, litter the landscape and affect the other visitors.

Guest Acknowledgment

By checking into Hyatt Regency Malta, guests acknowledge that they have read and understood the Guest Code of Ethics and Conduct and agree to comply with all stated terms.
