The Taragaon Museum
The Taragaon Museum is supported by the Saraf Foundation for Himalayan Traditions & Culture. The museum is the starting point of the foundation’s aim to document Nepal’s cultural heritage and support historic preservation in the Kathmandu valley and beyond. Museum entrance is free. Guided tour is $5 per person and can be booked in advance from the museum or from the hotel front desk. The museum is open Sunday through Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche built the monastery 1980, and in 1989 Rabjam Rinpoche established The Shechen Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies at the monastery. Hundreds of students from across the Himalayas are enrolled in its nine-year curriculum. Many graduates go on to be teachers across the globe.

Sacred Strolls (Boudha Stupa Walk)
A sacred walk around Boudhanath Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a two-hour tour during which guests will see Boudha historical pond (Ghyoilisang Peace Park & Pond), White Gumba, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche monastery and some local areas and shops. Times are 9–11 a.m. and 4–6 p.m., with a rate of USD $25 plus taxes.

Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath Stupa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 36-metre-high stupa (118 feet) is one of the largest stupas in South Asia. With countless monasteries surrounding it, Boudhanath is the centre of Buddhism in Nepal. The stupa was renovated by Licchavi rulers in the 8th century.

Royal Nepal Golf Club, a nine-hole course, is 4 kilometres (2.4 miles) from the hotel and on the way to Tribhuvan International Airport. The Club offers the latest golfing equipment and apparel from various companies, all of which are available at reasonable prices.

Kopan Monastery
The monastery was founded in 1971 by Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Monks and nuns from the age of seven come from all over Nepal and Himalayan countries such as Tibet, India, Bhutan, Sikkim and even Mongolia to attend this Gelugpa monastery to receive a classical monastic education.

Gokarna Golf Club
Gokarna Golf Club is 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) from the hotel. Spread over 140 acres at 1,386 metres (4,550 feet) above sea level, the 6,755-yard par 72 course is the only place to find bent grass greens on an 18-hole course in south and southeast Asia.

Thamel is a popular tourist destination in Kathmandu and is the pre-base camp for mountaineers. About 40 minutes from the hotel, Kupondole is on the way to Patan Durbar Square and is home to a few shops selling local handicrafts. There is no entry fee, and shops close at 6 p.m.

National Museum
The National Museum of Nepal is located in Chauni, near Swayambhu. The museum was initially known as Chhauni Silkhana, which literally means “the stone house of arms and ammunition”. Here, one can see Napoleon’s sword of command, which was presented to Jung Bahadur, the prime minister and ruler of Nepal from 1846 to 1877.

Khawalung Monastery
Khawalung Monastery was founded in 2005 by Lama Jigme Dorjee, who is a spiritual heir of Yogi Master Karma Choying Wangpo. The monastery includes an elementary school, a training school for rites and rituals, an institute for higher Buddhist studies and a retreat.

Changunarayan Temple
Changunarayan temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it was built in the 4th century. A 5th century stone inscription in the temple proclaims it as one of the oldest shrines in Kathmandu Valley. The temple is a showcase for Newari art and the architecture of the early century.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square
This square is in the centre of Bhaktapur city. Showcasing architecture that dates to the Malla period in the 14th and 15th centuries, the square is particularly charming with wide open spaces that are off-limits to vehicular traffic. Of particular interest: the Golden Gate, the 55 Window Palace and the beautiful statue of King Bhupatindra Malla mounted on a giant stone pillar.
