Blending old and new, Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh’s Royal Villa serves as a distinctive lobby. Originally constructed in 1900, the villa was the private residence of a Prince and later became the home of Her Royal Highness the Princess, embodying a chapter of Cambodia’s royal history.
Once known as House No. 55 on Street 178, the residence was built for Cambodian royalty and has witnessed the nation’s evolving narrative. Over time, it transitioned into office use and, during a pivotal period between 1991 and 1994, served as the mission headquarters for the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) following the Paris Peace Accords.
During those years, the villa became a gathering place for the international community, fondly remembered for its vibrant social spirit, including the iconic “Café No Problem”—a charming space where cultures met through conversation, creativity, and connection.
