Design

Alila Villas Uluwatu embraces an environmentally sustainable framework designed by renowned Singapore architectural firm WOHA.

WOHA’s unique design principles prioritize sustainability as much as world-class design through the use of recycled, organic, and local materials like reclaimed ulin, a wood native to the forests of Kalimantan known for its natural beauty and durability against the elements.

Green Initiatives

Alila Villas Uluwatu is the first resort in Indonesia to receive the highest level of certification from EarthCheck. We embrace environmentally sustainable design principles like using local materials from the special Bali savannah ecosystem to conserving water through our rain gardens.

Energy Efficiency

Our unique flat lava rock roofs have the distinct advantage of absorbing the Bali heat to help minimize energy consumption through air-conditioning. Lava rock’s natural insulation properties, resistance to colour fading, and ability to help control weeds are among its other advantages.

A Community Effort

It takes a village to ensure that no waste produced becomes pollution.

The resort’s waste management system’s success results from a collaborative effort between our in-house Sustainability Lab and partnerships with local community businesses and organizations, creating positive situations for all. Beyond its own waste management, Alila Villas Uluwatu also collaborates with Parongpong RAW Lab, a private research institute from Parongpong Village, West Bandung, to create a positive impact solution for cigarette butt waste pollution.

No Plastic Policy

In line with our Zero Waste Policy, Alila Villas Uluwatu has eliminated all single-use plastic usage throughout the resort, including back of house, since June 2021. This includes no plastic food packaging, bags or cutlery. We also encourage our team members and guests to bring their own reusable bags.

Water Bottling Plant

We produce our own drinking water using an on-site water purification system, an initiative that reduces waste and cuts our carbon footprint. We have also replaced single-use plastic bottles with glass bottles which we refill and reuse in-room and throughout the property.
