Our Environmental Sustainability
Hôtel du Palais part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, aims to actively contribute to the preservation of its natural environment and reduce its impact on the planet. Discover a few examples of our commitment to the environment.
Forbes Travel Guide award
We are honored to announce that we have been awarded the VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality badge by Forbes Travel Guide.
This distinction reflects our commitment to responsible hospitality, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability and the well-being of our teams, our guests, and our community. It embodies our vision of sustainable luxury—where every action and decision demonstrate our responsibility toward the planet, without compromising the guests' experience.
We are proud to join a community of excellence that shares this same vision, and we warmly thank our teams and partners for their dedication.
Label Clef Verte
We are proud and delighted to announce that our hotel has been awarded the Green Key label.
We are committed every day to reducing our carbon footprint, preserving natural resources and promoting environmentally-friendly practices. Obtaining the Clef Verte label, the first international environmental label for tourist accommodation and catering, developed in France by the Teragir association, testifies to our commitment to offering a sustainable experience to our guests.
As a hotel, we are proud of our commitment to sustainability, and grateful to our guests and partners who support us in this endeavor.
Energy
- Hyatt EcoTrack enables us to monitor our sustainability indicators, which include gas emissions, energy consumption, water consumption, waste management, and recycling.
- Replacing all halogen lamps with LEDs has been a crucial step in reducing our energy consumption.
- Additionally, by lowering the temperature of our outdoor pool by 2°C, we have significantly reduced our energy consumption.
Water
- In the rooms, Hôtel du Palais offers its guests the opportunity to reuse their linens, raising awareness of our ecological initiatives. The policy regarding changing room linens is left to the guests' discretion; without specific instructions from the guest, our room service limits the frequency of cleaning.
- The hotel's outdoor swimming pool and paddling pool are filled with seawater, drawn directly from the ocean, allowing us to save almost 600 cubic meters of fresh water.
- Our gardeners have adapted their practices to minimize water consumption as much as possible, including rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation for flower beds, and early-morning watering.
Waste and recycling
- All bio-waste generated is sorted and collected by Les Alchimistes du Pays Basque for recycling and composting.
- In the kitchen and rooms, the hotel has eliminated the use of disposable crockery by switching to ceramic cups and glassware. Additionally, biodegradable takeaway containers are used in the kitchen.
- In guest rooms, individual solid soaps are collected by our housekeeping staff and sent to Sapocycle, a French association that collects single-use soaps and processes them at a recycling center.
Preserving biodiversity
- We no longer use harmful chemicals in our green spaces, ensuring a reduced environmental impact from our lawnmowers.
- We have created a vegetable garden to supply the hotel's kitchens with aromatic herbs and seasonal vegetables. This garden also serves to raise awareness among guests, especially children, about environmental issues through fun activities organized around it.
- Our green spaces are planted with local species that are perfectly adapted to the climate and require minimal water consumption.
Sustainable gastronomy
- The hotel is committed to not buying, selling, or consuming endangered species. Our chef creates menus that consider the seasonality of products and respect the reproduction of species.
- We collaborate with over thirty local producers.
- Our chef offers alternatives for vegetarian guests, with two dedicated menus available and several vegan options.
As a prominent leader in the luxury hotel industry in Biarritz and the Basque Coast, we take pride in our commitment to environmental protection. We invite our customers, employees, and partners to join us in preserving our magnificent region for present and future generations.
