Stories Worth Collecting Since 1617. Long before Stockholm became one of Europe's most admired capitals, ships arrived daily along the bustling waterfront of Skeppsbron — carrying spices, silk, iron and stories from every corner of the world. It was here, in the heart of Gamla Stan, that the buildings now forming Hôtel Reisen first took shape. Today, as part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the hotel blends centuries of heritage with contemporary Scandinavian luxury.

Founded in the 13th century, Stockholm grew into one of Northern Europe's great trading capitals — and Skeppsbron became its gateway to the world. By the early 1600s, the buildings that now form Hôtel Reisen stood along this prestigious waterfront, their cellars storing cargo unloaded straight from the harbour: coffee, spices, wine and silk.
The hotel takes its name from Fredrik Reiss, one of the district's most prominent 18th-century merchants. Long before it became a hotel, this address was home to one of Stockholm's celebrated coffee houses — a legacy Restaurant Reisen carries forward today.
Did you know? Skeppsbron means "The Ship Bridge" — a reminder that this waterfront was once Stockholm's principal international harbour.

Hôtel Reisen has long inspired more than merchants. Sweden's beloved troubadour Carl Michael Bellman, author Fritiof Nilsson Piraten and Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky all found inspiration within these historic walls.
Beneath street level, magnificent 17th-century brick vaults once stored cargo from the harbour above. Today these same vaults are home to Tjärn Spa, where Nordic wellness traditions meet centuries of history.
Did you know? One of the original bricks beneath Tjärn Spa still carries the footprint of the woman who crafted it over 300 years ago.

At Hôtel Reisen, history isn't confined to museum displays. It surrounds you — in the harbour view from your window, the cobbled streets of Gamla Stan just outside, the vaulted ceilings that once sheltered cargo from the Baltic Sea.
