The hotel is beautiful and well-maintained, with good service overall. Akira from the staff was especially helpful and responsive, providing all the information we needed and quickly addressing our requests.

However, the check in process was slow and disorganized, with the lobby crowded: many guests were standing, sitting on the floor, or letting their children run around.

The biggest issue we encountered was the lack of smoking control in public areas. Many guests were smoking freely around the beach, the pool, and even next to the kids’ pool. There were no designated smoking areas, and no staff were present to manage the situation. This made it difficult to relax, as there was often someone smoking nearby, even in family-friendly spaces.

Beautiful resort with good service

Quiet and amazing hotel to stay if u prefer to be away from the bustling city area. Beach area is well maintained. Although food delivery to the hotel can be limited, food overall in the hotel is great. However  there is room for improvements on the variety of food under the in-room dining selection. I was quite disappointed the selection of cocktails and champagne were not given.it would be amazing if such selection were open as the view from the room is amazing and it will be great if it can be accompanied with a drink.

Staff here are professional, helpful, and responsive. They provide excellent breakfast that exceeds my expectation. The private beach has great and fine sand on it.

Overall, the hotel is beautiful with excellent design except for the super confusing 3D navigation.

If you are looking for balconies in your room, the hotel may not be your choice.

Excellent service and food, awkward design

Just got back from a 2 night stay at this property and it has far exceeded my expectations as a long time Globalist and Hyatt hotel explorer in China.

First, this hotel is magnificently built and maintained. It's massive and feels like an architectural design masterpiece. There are Instagram worthy photo spots almost everywhere you look inside, not to mention the natural beauty of the Sunny Bay and outdoor pool areas, which are stunning. Yes, this tends to attract the social media influencers (or "wang hong" in Chinese) who are not only hogging up the photo spots, but also typically bring 2-3 of their camera-men along, so the hotel at times will feel a little bit less private and crowded because of them. Not a huge deal as you can simply ignore them. Note: the hotel is still in a gated off private area of Sanya with its own private beach, so you're already shielded from 99% of the huge typical tourist crowds of the city.

Second, if you search this hotel on Chinese social media and travel booking apps, you're going to see a TON of negative reviews and reports of incidents of bad service, poor room condition, awful experience, etc. Going into this stay, I was definitely concerned. But I quickly realized how exaggerated the negative reviews were, and now suspect foul play in many of the negative reviews written. Having lived in China for 10 years, here's my take on why so many negative reviews pop up for this property:
1) This is an expensive hotel by Chinese standards, so the typical Chinese guest who rarely stay at properties in this price range, are going to expect a heavenly palace-like experience for the money they paid.
2) Consumers in China are highly demanding of service people in general. Anything less than bend-the-knee type of service is going to offend them (ok I'm exaggerating here but it's not as far as you think from reality).
3) I wouldn't be surprised if some of the bad reviews originate from competitor properties. There are third-party contractors businesses can hire for cheap to generate this kind of bad press. And this type of malicious competition exists in almost every industry in China.
4) A big draw of this property is its architecture, you end up wondering how many staff hours and dollars are dedicated to just maintaining it on a daily basis. But this isn't going to impress most Chinese guests, who are used to seeing grand displays of infrastructure even in small tier 4-5 cities.

Far exceeded my expectations as a long time Globalist

Great Location. Hotel is in a fairly private location away from everything else. Definitely the best hotel I‘ve been to in Sanya so far. The interior is beautifully designed. Even though the last renovation is quite a few years ago: you wouldn‘t notice. Everything is kept in impeccable state. 

That said: the designated ocean swimming area is fairly small and closes at around 6pm. So it can get crowded if you want to take a swim in the ocean.

Excellent. A Hotel like in a James Bond movie. Very nice spacious gangways, looby, nice art. Not crowded at all. Best and private beach in Sanya. Excellent service. Private fridge with good free sodas

Park Hyatt Sunny bay

Our stay at the Park Hyatt Sunny Bay resort in Sanya Hainan was way too short. (3 days) The hotel is located at the end of a road in a bay with a gorgeous view over the bay and South China sea. We were warmly welcomed by the Head Butler Taylor Jin who also gave us his We Chat contact so that we could reach him  24/7 should we have any questions about the hotel or anything else. We happily made us of that possibility and Taylor was always quick to answer with good advice. The Hotel itself is a piece of art and has many artworks throughout the different buildings and is therefore a "feast for the eye"  We used the 130 meter pool not only to swim but also to paddle on  a surfboard. With separate pools for the very small and small kids we did not have to worry that we would bump into them with the surf board. English is widely spoken throughout the hotel which is not always common in China. Breakfast was great as all food was from superior quality . Obviously here the motto was quality above quantity and that is the way it should be. Winnie made sure that we were not coming short of espresso, orange juice and food. The Chinese restaurant is in beautiful old style Chinese decoration. At the Terrace Bruce Shen took great care of us during The Club Happy Hour assisted by Linn Lin and the next day by Winnie. Our 168 m2 suite was marvelous and had a magnificent view over the bay and part of the South China Sea. It was a (too) short but wonderful stay and looking forward to go back there again. A great thank you to all the staff that took care of us

During this vacation, I chose Park Hyatt Santa Sunny Bay for its unique landscape and exclusiveness. My family's stay there proved my choice right. We like the delicious foods, heartfelt services and beautiful sceneries. My family enjoyed days there and we even don't want to go any other travel resorts in Sanya anymore.

The hotel itself is a tranquil sanctuary with an artistic vibe. Everything just slows down a bit in here. There’s so much to explore within the hotel, needless to say the private sunny bay, which is only accessible by Park Hyatt. Super friendly staff and excellent service! One of the best hotels, if not the best, in Hainan.
