Sustainability AT HYATT REGENCY BRISBANE
OVERVIEW
- Guided by our purpose of care, Hyatt Regency Brisbane has been dedicated to sustainable initiatives since transition in 2021. The journey has seen the hotel achieving waste and water reduction, better utilisation of resources, and providing guests with greater value through sustainable dining and wellbeing.
- In 2024, the hotel was recognised with a Bronze Earth Check Certification, and in 2025 Silver Certification, a testament to the team’s ongoing commitment for improvement.
- We use Hyatt EcoTrack, Hyatt’s global environmental sustainability software, to track sustainability metrics including greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water, waste, and recycling. These insights are important to help advance efficiency improvements.

RESPECTING LOCAL CULTURE, TOURISM AND HISTORICAL LANDMARKS
- Our hotel rests on land where First Nations peoples met, traded and celebrated some 35,000 years ago. Located on Burnett Lane, a local historical landmark and the birthplace of Brisbane City, home to the iconic former Lennons Hotel, at Hyatt Regency Brisbane today we honour our past and ensure the modern traveler continues to meet, rest and thrive in our care.
- The hotel has partnered with local artist in residence Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, from Qandamooka country, North Stradbroke Island. Delvene has create two specially commissioned artwork pieces, ‘Bay to the River’ showcased in all guestrooms, and ‘Song Lines’ showcased in all suites.

SUSTAINABLE GUEST AMENITIES
- The hotel offers two electric vehicle charge stations in it’s valet parking garage.
- All hotel guests receive a Light Housekeeping Service, unless otherwise requested for full servce. This means bed linen is changed after day 3 of every stay,and guests may choose to reuse towels during their stay by hanging them instead of putting them on the floor.
- To avoid disposal water bottles, Hydration Stations are located on levels 2 and 4 utilising MODA water. Pre-arrival emails are sent from Front Desk encouraging guests to bring their own water bottles during their stay to reduced plastic bottle usage.
- Staff upon commencement of employment are provided their own keep cup for on-site coffee or tea benefits reducing the amount of trash from one-time use coffee cups.
- All guestrooms and suites feature full size reusable Pharmacopia amenities – shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash and body lotion. Additionally, all dry amenities including dental kits, shaving kits, cotton tips, combs, sanitary bags etc, are made from corn starch packaged in kraft paper.
- From mid 2025, guestrooms feature dual zone rubbish bins to encourage separation of trash and recycling along with separated bins in main public areas on level 2 and level 4.
- Guests are encouraged to go paperless opting for email vs printed invoice copies and documents
- Replacement of all in-room collateral with one universal QR code for in-room dining and hotel services
- Recyclable pens made paper and corn starch

CARBON EMISSIONS AND WATER
- 2025 implementation of new BMS system to best track all usage of energy
- Energy efficient LED lighting is used throughout the hotel
- Sensors are used in back of house areas to efficiently manage lighting
- All guest rooms are set with one light on, and AC to 22 degrees are part of the hotel’s efforts to reduce energy consumption.

WASTE, CIRCULARITY & REDUCING PLASTIC
- Plastic straws are not used in the hotel. Rather straws made of paper are offered upon request.
- Plastic covers are not used for guest dry cleaning services.
- Gently used towels and linen, along with lost property left behind are donated to local community partner Emmanuel City Mission, caring for the homeless community of Brisbane.
- The hotel partners with Soap Aid to recycle used bar soaps, providing them to underprivileged communities in need.
- Mobile Entry is available through the World of Hyatt app to reduce the number of room keys. In 2024 all plastic room keys were replaced with sustainable bamboo keys. Guests are encouraged to return their room keys upon departure to the Front Desk or via Express Checkout Box to use for future guests.
- The hotel uses agile tech solutions by HyChef to help track and reduce food waste and its associated costs.
- Collaboration with Containers for Change to recycle all wine, spirit, beer, bottles and cans
- Partnership with Veolia to implement a system for recycling paper and cardboard
- Any old or unused mattresses are recycled with CDC Recycling Brisbane to sustainably recycle and break down mattress parts
- Recycling of batteries, fluorescent fluorescent bulbs and tubes, partnering with ERS Queensland for e-Waste (TV’s and phones).
- All to-go packaging and cutlery are made from paper, straw or wooden sustainable materials. Where possible silver cutlery is used for all events to avoid use of disposal cutlery.
- The hotel works with local brands to produce sustainable corporate gifts
- MODA glass water bottles, filled using Hydration station, used in all Event rooms and VIP guest amenities
- Bamboo chux and use of biodegradable chemical cleaning supplies across the hotel
- Printing on recycled paper for all internal documents.

Hyatt Regency Brisbane’s food is thoughtfully sourced, and carefully served. This Philosophy guides us in how we select ingredients that are better for people, communities and the planet.
- Cage-free eggs are utilised in hotel-operated restaurants
- Advancing seafood purchased from responsible sources
- In many cases, produce is organic and purchased locally
- Plant-based and plant-forward menu items are offered in hotel-operated restaurants and for events
- Level 4 Hibiscus Bar & Terrace herb garden, ingredients grown to use in cocktails and beverages
- Bar menus feature a new focus in sourcing wines that are Biodynamic, and sustainable.
- The hotel partners with like minded brands and organisations to ensure alignment with sustainability efforts across all aspects of ethical and sustainable farming, procurement and purchasing and inclusion in menus. For example Lindt Chocolate, The Fish Factory Brisbane and all local farms for meat and produce.
