Overview
At Hyatt Place Ottawa West, we are working hard to advance sustainability along with creating a welcoming and inclusive work environment. Our employees have diverse backgrounds, helping to bring new perspectives on opportunities. We also work with local organizations such as Ottawa Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities to help us continue to improve an inclusive workplace. We are proud to have received recognition for our efforts and this page provides a glimpse into specific environmental initiatives.

- Winner of the Hotel Association of Canada Green Key Award and the Best Ottawa Business Awards for Environmental Sustainability 2022 as well as the Kostuch Media Green Leadership Award.
- Top 3 National Finalist for the Canadian Museum of Nature Inspiration Awards and the Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence Award for Sustainability.
- Recipient of the very first Crescent Hotels and Resorts Leadership in Culture Award as well as the 2023 Hyatt Hotels Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion America’s Division.
Climate Change and Water Conservation
- Our hotel has 225 rooftop solar panels that generate renewable energy onsite.
- A geothermal system helps cool the building in summer and heat it in winter using energy from 265 meters below ground.
- All rooms, hallways, and other public spaces are fitted with LED low energy lighting.
- All the toilets and showers in the hotel are low-flow units.
Waste and Circularity
- To help reduce single-use-bottles, complimentary water bottle refill stations are available in the lobby, the fitness centre, and on every guestroom floor. Guests that scan the QR code when refilling their water bottle generate a donation by our vendor partner to sustainability causes, including access to clean drinking water and reforestation projects.
- We donate excess food to a local charity, and linens and towels that are no longer suitable for use in guestrooms are donated to or repurposed as cleaning cloths.
- We offer single-use plastic-free meetings and events. Along with using reusable plates, cups and cutlery, we find alternatives to offering single-serving condiments such as coffee cream and ketchup.
Responsible Sourcing
- Our rooftop beehive supports the local ecosystem and produces honey, which we offer to our guests.
- We offer for purchase Fill-It Forward Refillable Water Bottles, which have charitable partnerships that support reforestation projects. These are also provided to our own staff.
- Cleaning products have environmental sustainability certification.
About our Destination
Hyatt Place Ottawa West is nestled next to Ottawa’s historic Green Belt. This area is full of well-marked and maintained trails suitable for walking, biking, cross-country skiing or snow-showing. Why not enjoy some of these fun and free activities that are right next door during your stay?
Bring your bike as we offer a bike rack right outside our main entrance. There is transit service by bus right outside our door if you want to take public transportation to any other wonderful Ottawa attractions downtown.
We have multiple electric vehicle charging stations on site.
