Hyatt Place Minneapolis/Downtown

Hotel Policies

Check-In Age Requirements

All guests must be at least 21 years of age to make a reservation and check in to the hotel. A valid photo ID and a credit card in the guest’s name must be presented at check-in. If a guest does not meet the minimum age requirement, is unable to provide a valid photo ID, or fails to present a credit card with sufficient funds to cover the authorization hold, the reservation will be canceled, and a one-night room and tax penalty will be charged to the card used to guarantee the booking.

Smoking Policy

Hyatt Place Minneapolis Downtown is a smoke-free hotel. Smoking, including the use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vapes, chewing tobacco, and marijuana, is strictly prohibited anywhere on hotel premises. Guests found violating this policy will be evicted immediately and charged a $250 smoking fine.

Pet Policy

Fees:

  • For stays of 1 to 6 nights, the fee is $100, regardless of duration ($100 total).
  • For stays excedding 6 nights, there is an additional deep cleaning fee of $100 ($200 total).
  • For stays exceeding 30 nights, please contact the hotel.

Weight:

Only dogs weighing 50 pounds or less are permitted. Two dogs may be allowed in a guestroom if their combined weight does not exceed 75 pounds.

All pets must be housebroken. The hotel reserves the right to refuse any dog that does not meet household pet standards due to species, odor, or aggressiveness. Pets must be confined in a carrier if left unattended while the room is being serviced, or guests may make arrangements to be present during housekeeping.

Incidentals & Authorization Hold

An incidental is any additional charge outside your room rate—like snacks, beverages, late checkouts, or fees for damage or policy violations. To cover these potential costs, a $250 incidental authorization hold per room is placed on your card at check-in ($300 for two-bedroom suites) and is in addition to room and tax. This hold is not an actual charge, but it temporarily reduces your available balance/credit limit to ensure the funds remain available to the hotel should they need to be collected. Unused funds are typically released within 4-6 business days for credit cards, but debit and international cards may take up to 31 days. For a smoother experience, we strongly recommend using a major credit card. The hotel retains the right to pre-authorize one night’s room and tax 72 hours prior to arrival. Reservations with declined cards may be subject to cancellation.

Violators will be fined $50 for the first offense, $250 for the second offense, and will be evicted for further violations.

Occupancy/No Party Policy

Parties are not permitted in guest rooms, the pool area, or any other hotel spaces unless booked directly through the sales team. All occupants must be registered at the front desk and added to the reservation, with additional charges applicable per extra person. Each room has a strict occupancy limit, with the largest accommodations allowing a maximum of eight guests. Any guest room exceeding its occupancy limit will result in a $250 fine, and all non-registered guests will be evicted from the hotel.

CASH FREE: No Prepaid Debit Card & No Mobile Payments

CASH FREE - Please note that this hotel only accepts credit cards, debit cards and, where applicable, other contactless forms of payment. It is a cash-free environment.

To ensure a smooth check-in process, and due to the higher rate of fraud/chargebacks, Hyatt Place Minneapolis Downtown does not accept prepaid debit cards, including Venmo, CashApp, Chime, Netspend, Green Dot, and similar cards, for room charges or deposits. Mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay are also not accepted at check-in. A valid credit or debit card in the guest’s name is required, with sufficient funds to cover the full room charge and incidental hold. Reservations without a valid form of payment will be canceled in accordance with the cancellation and no-show policy.

Cancellation & No-Show Policy

All reservations include a cancellation policy requiring cancellation at least 24 hours prior to check-in to avoid penalties. However, some reservations have stricter cancellation policies, including 48-hour, 72-hour, or non-refundable terms, or require a one-night fee regardless of when they are canceled. Guests must refer to the specific booking terms provided at the time of reservation. Failure to cancel within the required timeframe will result in applicable charges, and guests who fail to check in on the scheduled arrival date without notice will be considered a no-show, incurring a one-night room and tax charge.

All early check-in and late check-out requests are subject to availability and should be confirmed with the front desk on the day of arrival.

Loitering in the lobby, hallways, business areas, dining spaces, and parking lots is not permitted. Individuals engaging in solicitation or loitering will be asked to leave the premises immediately. These policies are enforced to ensure the comfort, security, and overall experience of all guests. Any warning signs posted throughout the hotel are placed for your protection, and we ask that all guests read and follow them accordingly.

Security

To maintain a safe environment, guests are encouraged to take necessary precautions with their valuables. The hotel is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Do not leave valuables unattended in your room unless they are secured in the in-room safe or, if available, the hotel's safe deposit box, which can be accessed through a Host at no additional charge. Always close the door securely when in your room and use all locking devices provided. Windows and any connecting doors should also be properly locked. Before opening your door to anyone, always verify their identity using the peephole. If someone claims to be a hotel employee and you are unsure, call the front desk for verification. Never provide your credit card or personal identity information over the phone, as hotel staff will never request this information in such a manner. Room keycards should be kept in a secure place and not left where they can be easily taken. Guests should also remain vigilant when entering parking lots and are strongly advised not to leave valuables in their vehicles. If you notice any suspicious activity within the hotel premises, please report it immediately to hotel management. As part of Hyatt’s security protocol, hotel staff must make contact with an occupied guest room at least once every 24 hours, even when a guest has placed a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door.

Vehicle & Downtown Parking Safety

Parking in downtown Minneapolis can be challenging, and we strongly encourage all guests to remain vigilant when using parking garages, surface lots, or street parking. Always lock your vehicle and take precautions to prevent theft by keeping valuables out of sight or securing them in the trunk before arriving at your destination. Avoid leaving key fobs inside the vehicle, as this can make it an easy target for theft. Be mindful of your surroundings when walking to or from parking areas, especially at night, and use well-lit, populated routes whenever possible. If you feel unsafe returning to your vehicle, hotel staff can assist in arranging an escort or alternative transportation. For guests using the hotel’s parking facility, access is restricted to registered vehicles only, and unauthorized vehicles may be subject to towing at the owner’s expense. Please adhere to all posted parking regulations to avoid fines or penalties. While we strive to maintain a secure environment, the hotel is not responsible for theft, vandalism, or damages to vehicles parked on or near the property. Taking these precautions can help ensure a safer and more secure parking experience during your stay. Parking ramp is not owned or managed by Hyatt Place Minneapolis Downtown.

Firearms & Weapons Policy

For the safety and security of all guests and employees, Hyatt Place Minneapolis Downtown maintains a strict no-firearms policy on hotel premises. Guests, visitors, and employees are prohibited from possessing, carrying, or storing firearms, weapons, ammunition, or explosives within the hotel, including guest rooms, common areas, meeting spaces, and parking facilities, regardless of whether they have a permit to carry. The only exceptions to this policy are active law enforcement officers performing official duties.Guests who fail to comply with this policy will be required to remove the weapon from the premises immediately. Any refusal to comply or violation of this policy may result in eviction from the hotel without refund and notification to local law enforcement authorities. The hotel reserves the right to take further action as necessary to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests.

Fire Safety

Guests should familiarize themselves with the location of fire exits, alarms, and extinguishers in the hallways upon arrival. In the event of a fire alarm or evacuation order, test the door for heat or smoke before exiting. If clear, proceed to the nearest stairwell and exit the building—elevators should never be used during a fire emergency. If you are unable to leave your room, place wet towels under the door to prevent smoke from entering and notify the hotel operator of your room number. Turn off all air conditioning units, remain low to the floor, and await further instructions.

Water Safety

f you are near bodies of water, be aware that waves, submerged rocks, currents, and other natural conditions can pose hidden dangers. Always exercise caution and, if traveling with children, keep them within reach at all times. Read and obey any warning signs posted near water areas for your safety. If caught in a rip current or struggling against strong waves, remain calm and allow the current to carry you until you are released, then swim back to shore. Always swim with a buddy to enhance safety.

Severe Weather Procedures

During severe weather, guests should immediately seek shelter indoors. Those already inside should stay away from windows and glass doors. If hotel staff directs an evacuation, take your room keycard and use stairwells instead of elevators.

Earthquake Safety

If an earthquake occurs while inside the hotel, protect your head and take cover under a sturdy table or crouch in a corner away from windows and exterior walls. If outside, move to an open space away from power lines, trees, and buildings. After the earthquake, do not rush outside and avoid using elevators until they have been inspected for safety. Stairwells should only be used once confirmed safe. Avoid using matches or lighters in case of a gas leak, and keep phone lines clear for emergency calls. Aftershocks may continue for several days, but they generally decrease in severity over time.

Tornado Procedures

If a tornado siren sounds, it indicates that a tornado has been confirmed in the area. Guests should take immediate cover by moving to the bathroom within their suite or the interior corridor on the first floor. Follow all instructions provided by hotel staff until the danger has passed. By following these safety and security measures, we aim to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. For any concerns or assistance, please contact the front desk at any time during your stay.
