Park Hyatt New York and Samuels Creative & Co. are pleased to present NOW IS ENOUGH, a solo exhibition by master printmaker, educator, and social justice advocate Corita Kent (1918-1986). The exhibition features a selection of lesser-known screenprints Kent created during the 1970’s.
Kent became a nun in the Los Angeles order of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 18 years old, later joining the art faculty at Immaculate Heart College in 1947. From 1964 to 1968, she served as chair of the art department. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans, which she first saw displayed at the Ferus Gallery in 1962, Kent developed her own version of Pop Art during the 1960’s, pulling from popular music, advertising, literature, and scripture to create brightly colored, graphic compositions.
CORITA KENT: NOW IS ENOUGH will be on view at Park Hyatt New York’s ground-level Avenue Gallery through May 2020.
