Hotel Magdalena sits at varying elevations, an homage to the slopes of nearby Barton Springs— Austin’s most cherished natural-spring outdoor pool. Our 900-square-foot pool takes inspiration from Barton Springs’ shape and terrain, down to the rock quarry. And like the Springs, we know the value of good shade. Our lush grounds are planted with native Texas species including Bigtooth Maples, Yaupon Holly and Little Gem Magnolia. Sweet serenity awaits just steps from South Congress, where our pool welcomes both hotel guests and visitors with daily pool passes, available through Resort Pass

Hotel Magdalena is nestled on Music Lane, just off iconic South Congress Avenue, surrounded by Austin’s rich culture and history. Overlooking downtown, the hotel is perfectly situated within steps of its sister properties: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Hotel San José, Austin Motel and the beloved Jo’s Coffee.

In the mid-1950s and 1960s, the Terrace Motor Hotel sat on the same location as the Hotel Magdalena and the Hotel Saint Cecilia. This 14-acre stretch off South Congress, spanning five city blocks and including the Terrace Motor Hotel, was eventually purchased by legendary musician Willie Nelson. In the late ’70s, he opened the Austin Opry House, a famous 1,700-seat music venue, and he also built apartments for musicians and traveling road crew. We aim to honor that heritage and provide the same effervescent home to all who pass through.
