The location of this resort and overall atmosphere is ok. My wife and I purchased the all inclusive experience, however the food is not very good, and so we ended up eating most of our meals outside of the resort. Therefore I would not recommend the all inclusive option as it’s a waste of money in my opinion.

This is a lovely hotel, but you cannot prepare for how hilly and steep it is if you’ve never been to Madeira before. The website doesn’t show the countless steps around the resort, and super steep hills. The location on the island is fairly remote and very quiet, it’s not really near anything so if you want to explore you can hire a car, or like we did jump on the shuttle that runs daily to Funchal. The suite that we had was absolutely beautiful, far bigger than we expected. The views over the sea and the marina were just lovely. The hotel over all is exceptionally clean and tidy and very well maintained. We didn’t see any areas that need TLC. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. The food, whilst tasty and a good choice, was only ever warm, never hot. In England it would be returned to the kitchen in a restaurant. That was disappointing. The hotel in general lacks atmosphere, everywhere. There’s hardly any music played in restaurants, or the bars, I think we heard music in the buffet restaurant once. We didn’t see any management anywhere in the hotel which we thought was odd. We would recommend this hotel to couples that are older but still mobile due to the hills and steps. Definitely not one for younger couples or families with children. The beach is man made which we knew in advance, but the pebbles are huge and not easy to get in and out of the sea at all. The main pool is nice but there are no cushions on the sun loungers so it’s not the most comfortable place to lie for a relaxing holiday. They do play some music which lifts the atmosphere a bit. There is an adults only pool which does have cushioned loungers, but no music and a huge lack of atmosphere. We only managed to get into one of the speciality restaurants, Sabor, but it was hugely disappointing with poor service, small portion sizes and the drink my husband ordered when we first got there didn’t turn up until dessert! So I really wouldn’t recommend that one. I can’t comment on any of the others though. The coffee shop is a lovely place, the female staff in there were super friendly, the males not so much. The drinks were very consistent though and there is a good choice of pastries and cakes, all of which are brought over to your table. The main lobby bar is a bit of a disaster. It’s nicely decorated and comfortable but we only saw 1/2 bar staff at a time and there is no table service so at times the queue was 15-20 people long! There is a nice village square sort of set up outside with tables and chairs, which is a nice place to sit in the evening. But again in a 5* hotel of this level I would expect staff to serve you at your table. Overall we wouldn’t go back to this hotel, but are pleased we went and had a relaxing week.

Location beautiful but very hilly so not suitable for people who have mobility issues. Hotel looked tired and in need of maintenance. Coffee shop and beach bar excellent. The themed restaurants were disappointing food Luke warm and not cooked or over cooked. Staff stretched and stressed due to limited numbers of staff and agency staff. Room full of ants and multiple things missing from room. Several senior staff very rude and made us feel like an inconvenience. Couldn’t wait to leave won’t be back

Didn’t meet expectations - not suitable for anyone with food allergies, ant infestation in room. Largely poor service.

If you don't read the rest of this, understand that your room won’t be available until 3pm on arrival... dress etc accordingly. (we know this had happened to other guests, so not just us being unlucky) Hotel is lovely and generally the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeably. But it feels let down by management decisions. Sort of a 4* hotel with a 2* mentality. Feels like they had heavily reduced the staffing after peak season and were making do with minimal staff and agency workers. As noted, we had to wait three hours for our room; this is in a holiday destination resort not an inner-city hotel, but one with full knowledge of who is coming/going. While you have access to the facilities there is no greeting with a drink etc (as defined in the Hyatt details), your luggage will just sit about for hours in the lobby and you will get zero guidance on where things are (go upstairs to reach most of them.) Rooms are nice and clean, showers hot etc. Housekeeping staff are good and pleasant, but we had to chase up a vase for the flowers ordered. Felt like a concierge not talking to housekeeping issue. While main pool areas were clean etc (as far as we spent time at them), the pool near our room steadily built up a pile of abandoned towers and cigarette butts. My wife raised this with reception, but they didn’t do anything about it. Food! Main self-service restaurant was good, better than most I've been to. Restaurant down by the sea is excellent with very good staff. Limited food choice but all good. We went to two of the theme restaurants. There is an assumption you will be taking the normal free drinks, so you must ask for a wine list. Carvao steak house was good; service was solid and pleasant. Worth a visit. The French restaurant is in an amazing location and overall the food is quite good but generally service is rushed… drop and go waitering. Took some time to get a wine list but the woman who was sommelier was excellent. Desert was a bit of a let down with a soggy crème Brûlée and a cheese board that was just a few different slices of cheese, no crackers or grapes etc. There was no offer of coffee and I would have had to trip a waiter to get their attention. Getting a second bottle of the wine outside the restaurant for the evening was a chore involving one bar and two restaurants, it shouldn’t be that hard! Evening entertainment is on par with other hotels but has long queues at the main bar as they closed the outside one. No table service outside (no one about to tip to get any) as there isn’t enough staff. We went on the local Wale/Dolphin watching trip, very enjoyable with knowledgeable staff. Would highly recommend (they publish the pricing so no surprises). When you see the hotel from the see it is stunning. Would we go again? No. Would we go to another Hyatt hotel? Again no as I think most failings here were management ethos etc.
