Across the Chain Bridge and a funicular ride away is Castle Hill where the Buda Castle (Royal Palace) UNESCO World Heritage Site is located. Previously a royal residence, today this Renaissance building is the Hungarian National Gallery. Also found atop this hill is Fisherman’s Bastion, a Neo-Romanesque lookout tower build to symbolize the Seven Chieftains of the Magyars. In close proximity to these towers is the Neo-Gothic, Matthias Church, Budapest’s most visited Roman Catholic temple. Buda Castle Hill has one of the city’s best views and is filled with gastronomic, cultural and historic experiences.

The Castle District

The Great Synagogue, is located on Dohány Street and is one of Budapest’s historical highlights as it is the largest synagogue in Europe and the second largest in the world. This Oriental and Moorish temple seats 3,000 people and is a centre of Neolog Judaism, it also houses the Hungarian Jewish Museum. Join a guided tour to learn more about the district's history.
