Hyatt Place Santa Barbara -- the Perfect Place to Stay!

Hyatt Place Santa Barbara looks smaller and more ordinary from the street and in pictures online, but it is all Hyatt inside. First-class and very, very nice. Staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. The room was large and immaculate. Parking was convenient. Wi-fi was easy. Breakfast was great. We'll stay at Hyatt any time!

    Never again

This hotel is considered a level 6 hotel in the Hyatt chain but feels like a level 2 at best. It was very expensive for a run-down hotel far away from the downtown area.

    Such a pleasant hotel

This hotel offers an excellent location with convenient access to State Street. The property has a pleasant atmosphere, and the charming outdoor garden seating area provides a relaxing place to unwind. The underground parking garage makes parking easy and hassle-free. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend staying here.

    Skip this location

Staff is unfriendly, they do not adhere to world of hyatt benefits and seem to make their own rules only recognizing the highest tier members. The rooms have a very annoying constant low pitch fan, too low for white noise , not silent. Just loud enough to make you think you have tinnitus.

    No Parking regulation

The rooms were clean, spacious, and quiet. The main negative we experienced is no parking in a spot with a charger was available for electric car since NON electric cars were parked here. Even though there was plenty of open spots for non electric cars, they were still parked in electric car spots, making it impossible for us to charge. When we brought this up to front staff, they said there was nothing they can do and they have no protocols to notify these guests to make the spots available for those with electric vehicles.

    Great for a short stay

Great location, stayed for 1 night to drop off daughter at college. The breakfast had a lot of options and plenty of hot coffee. The hotel itself is a little dated compared to other Hyatts I have stayed at but the room was clean, and the staff was extremely friendly. The walls were thin and we had a large family staying above us so it was hard to fall asleep.

    Unpleasant experience

UGH! I am a Hyatt Globalist and I had a terrible experience here. It should not be a Hyatt "Category 5", it should be a "Category 3" at best. We paid over $400 a night for this tiny, loud vertical "motel" with horrible ugly views, and my wife got food poisoning from the breakfast. We had to end our trip early. We took one look at the so-called "hot tub" and ran away screaming due to the green color, size, and nasty appearance. When the neighbors fired up their shower it made the most god-awful noise. Our bathroom must have been located above the engine room because the floor vibrated at random times. The other patrons made a sloppy mess of the breakfast area and no one cleaned it up. It was either this or the Moldy Mar Monte for $600 a night, YIKES!

Overall a very nice experience. The hotel is in an excellent location, very convenient to everything. The attached parking garage is a safe option when driving.

Look for other options. Don't pay extra for breakfast.

When we booked our family vacation for four rooms (separate booking) and the high rates we paid, we expected a much better experience. While not an experience of a 5 star hotel but surely not a 2-star hotel. Room was clean. Linen looked like they were washed. Staff accommodated our request for having all 4 rooms on the same floor. Rest was underwhelming. Breakfast items were minimal. Pancakes and waffles were worst. Charging extra for poor quality is not right. Bathrooms were ok. No exhaust and door lock didn’t work. Water was not always warm. Curtains were a bit dirty and water kept coming out. Parking was inconvenient. This was like a 2-star hotel/motel experience. Not staying again.

    Too much for too little

We have stayed at this Hyatt place since their first opening and it has definitely lost its luster. The only really good thing about it is its proximity to our son‘s house in Hope Ranch. Definitely in need of a refreshing and it would be helpful if the room you booked online was representative of the room you receive. I had booked a room with a walk-in shower very specifically because both my husband and I do better with that and the room had a tub to step over into. He is with a walker, does not need an ADA room, but it would’ve been much more convenient and safe had we received the room that I had booked. I inquired immediately when getting into the room, but they didn’t have anything to accommodate us.

Earth's 8th Mystery: why this is a category 6 hotel

The hotel is fine and all, for a category 3 hotel. The hotel is NOT so fine and all, for a category 6 hotel with a cat-6 price tag. Staring at the ceiling when lying in bed, I see Grand Hyatt Denver (cat-4) and Grand Hyatt HK (cat-6) flashing in my mind, and can't stop thinking - why? Maybe a Hyatt Place shouldn't be cat-6 at all. Maybe this is the "Santa Barbara premium". I will never understand. (the same comment goes to Mar Monte right down the street)

Hotel Needs to Get Updated and with the Digital Age in 2026--Beware--They charge for Parking!

We had a terrible experience. Despite stating there was a mobile check in and digital key feature, these were not available despite our prepaying. I tried to text the hotel several times through the app to request late check out, etc., and the text feature did not work. They force you to come to the desk because they charge you a daily parking fee--not disclosed on the website. Water pressure in shower non existent. No Bibles kept in room.

    Not good place

I was staying in Room 236. The most disappointing part was there was 0 hot water. I had to be somewhere early in the morning. Didn't have time to get it fixed or change rooms. So had to take a very cold shower, and there's mold in the bathroom and ants on the desk and in the bathroom.

I will not stay on this one again!

The location is convenient and accessible. However, the overall experience was disappointing due to the hotel's outdated layout, which felt cheap and poorly maintained. Additionally, charging extra for parking was inconvenient and unexpected. The hotel's standards do not align with the typical Hyatt brand experience, instead resembling a budget motel like Motel 6. This mismatch in quality and service left me very disappointed.

    Uninvited guests

We found termites under our sheets and on the floor surrounding the bed. When the hotel sent someone over to check, he said they are mosquitos. I have videos to prove that they were termites.

    Great spot

Great place to stay. It is conveniently located right of the Hwy which makes easy access on and off. They have a decent Mexican restaurant next store that made dining easy after a long drive. I appreciate the $10.00 a night parking. A lot of places charge a ton for parking! We look forward to our next stay.

Disappointing Booking Experience – Outdated Policies

I stayed at this hotel recently, and while the stay itself was average and nothing out of the ordinary, the booking and payment process was extremely frustrating. Be warned: this hotel has no cancellation policy. The moment you confirm your reservation, your card is charged immediately—no flexibility, no refund options. I booked several months in advance for a business trip, and the charge showed up on my company card long before the trip. This caused issues with expense reporting, especially since the hotel doesn’t provide a receipt at the time of booking. I had to switch to my personal card and go through extra steps to get reimbursed. Their rigid and outdated approach to cancellations and payments feels like something from the 1990s. Because of this, I won’t be booking here again. If you’re traveling for business or need any flexibility, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your stay. We regret you encountered issues with the booking and payment process. After reviewing your reservation, it appears that you booked an advance purchase, non-refundable, no changes reservation. We have multiple different options with varying cancellations/modification policies. Most of the available booking options allow for flexibility and refunds; however, advance purchase, non-refundable bookings are not flexible and are non-refundable. This appears to be the issue you experienced. We understand how this impacted your stay with us and hope to have another opportunity to host you. We encourage all travelers to look through the variety of rate and cancellation options available when booking.

    Think twice

Hot water is a problem. Overall facility is nice, but a hot shower each night was a miss. Was told to run the shower and sink at the same time to get the boiler going. After wasting water for 8 minutes I gave up.
