I would not stay at this hotel again. Overall the property feels dingy and needs a complete refresh. The workout equipment in the tiny fitness room did not work - 2 treadmills and the Peloton bike would not turn on. The hotel was quiet and the front desk staff were friendly, but that's about the only positive I can find.

Good location, dated furniture, hotel smelt bad, most uncomfortable bed I’ve slept in. Would not recommend. You can pay 10 dollars more for a much nicer hotel. People were nice though.

On the upside, the staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. On the downside, the hotel was dated, specifically the carpet and furniture in the room. The bed initially felt lumpy but turned out quite comfortable. The shower water pressure was the worst I have ever experienced no mater the time of day. I was on the seventh floor but that shouldn't matter. At 9pm one night a thief nearly knocked my wife over running out of a convenience stoor a block from the hotel.

Very poor service! Beds not made even once. Towels not replaced or not replaced correctly (one day no wash clothes left) Things not right in room such as sink did not drain properly, no cold water at sink and handle on draw falling off. Trash only picked up sporadically. Very poor experience for a hotel at this price!

The lobby looks great and the breakfast is great as well. Staff were all very nice and helpful. The rooms are run down and were extremely humid. Only one of the 4 elevators worked. Hair all over the bathroom. Key cards constantly stopped working despite carrying a single card in its own pocket to keep it away from other cards and devices (which shouldn’t be required in modern facilities). A stranger gained access to our room in the middle of the night while our own cards didn’t work which is extremely concerning. Will never stay at this location again.

This hotel has a good location and parking was close/easy. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms seemed a little older but this was expected from the photos it did not look renovated. BUT, there was a pair of swim trunks left in the top drawer of the dresser from a previous person that stayed in that room. This gave me an uneasy feel and just felt gross. This also made me wonder if they fully cleaned the room. other than that it was an okay stay for a quick trip.

Still waiting for my night to be refunded back for all the troubles. It's old and outdated. Breakfast was worthless and everything in the room felt damp and wet.

Hotel smelled, was dirty, key cards stopped working multiple time and holes in linens and bed bugs. Tried to book a different hotel immedately upon arrival.

Hotel Hyatt downtown Des Moines was clean, friendly, but room was handicapped, I'm not. Bed was hard, sunken in, and leaned far to the left. TV was on side wall so you couldn't watch it while in bed. Room needed repairs. Front desk was unable to change my room even though others were available. I'll never book through Trivago again either!! They said they were looking into it to change my room. They did NOTHING to rectify the situation!!! Nothing!

Customer service is great. The owners need to refurbish the hotel. In the rooms, the furniture is dinged up, the upholstery is stained, and the carpet seams are worn out. The hotel condition is only slightly better than an EconoLodge or Quality Inn.

The positive - the hotel is very close to the YMCA where we had a weekend swim meet. They opened breakfast early so that we could grab a bite to eat before heading to the pool. The negative - this hotel is worn out. There were holes in the sofa, the finish on the furniture is scuffed off, the water pressure was terrible and Wi-Fi was very slow and unpredictable when I tried to get some work done. Although there are 4 elevator bays on each floor, only 1 actually works. The hotel was this way when we stayed here last year. Parking is across the street and $30/night, which seems very high. Our first night the general alarm went off for 45 straight minutes at 10:30pm. The front desk was unable to share what the emergency was, but to stay in our room. I was traveling with my child and this was unsettling. When the alarm finally was turned off, there was zero communication regarding the cause/resolution and no apology offered.

If there’s more than 1 person checking in you’ll have to wait for somewhere to park. If you want a restful night sleep this is the wrong place. I could’ve had a better night sleep at a portion of the cost.

The staff at this hotel are fabulous - helpful, kind and nothing was too much trouble. The beds and bedding were SO comfortable. Downsides - the hotel is a bit tired and could do with some paint/modernising. And the breakfast (was tasty and good) but the cutlery/plates/cups are all disposable with no option to recycle these single use items.

Nice, clean facilities at a reasonable price. It was nicer than I expected, considering how affordable it was. We were a party of two adults, and only stayed one night. We did eat at the breakfast bar provided by the hotel, and that was a good experience. The tables were wiped clean as soon as people left, so you knew you were eating at a clean table. There was a decent variety of foods- scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausage links, fruits, oatmeal cups, yogurt station, variety of cereals with a gluten free option, and a variety of pastries and bagels. I'm sure I missed a couple of items, but it was an overall nice selection. Beverages available included milk, orange juice, apple juice, hot water to make tea, and coffee. The food and beverages were kept at an appropriate temperature, and everything was tasty. We went to downtown Des Moines for a concert at the Casey's Center. The Hyatt hotel was a few blocks or so away from the venue, with the added benefit of the skywalks that connected the hotel to other downtown businesses. We were able to walk the entirety of our route from the hotel to the Casey's Center through the skywalks. This was a huge benefit for us. It saved us so much time and headache by not having to deal with parking and traffic. Overall, it was a nice place to stay at an affordable rate.

Kenzie was a really nice and considerate staff! She's really super helpful. The breakfast was also good as well as the gym.

I always stay at the Hyatt when I am in town for the fair. The shuttle is close and the hotel is clean and comfortable. The rooms are large and breakfast is good. Nothing fancy, but a nice comfortable stay

This used to be out go to hotel when we had to go to Des Moines. It has been a few years since we stayed and we went to the State fair on Tuesday and booked here. When we checked in we were told our room was upgraded. I wish they hadn't done that. The room smelled musty, the furniture was damaged, the bed looked like it had been there for 20 years, the pillow top was smashed, it creaked every time you moved. Very little pressure in the shower. They no longer had valet parking but still had parking spots in the ramp across the street. She asked if we would be parking and I said yes and got a slip to park in the ramp. When we checked out, we got a $30 valet parking charge on our bill that I was not told about. Breakfast was OK, but they now use paper plates and plastic silverware. I get it that everyone is cutting back costs but other Hyatt's we have stayed recently still had good dishes. All in all, not a terrible experience but this place is in desperate need of updating. I guess we expect a better experience for the price.

Don’t think condition of the hotel rates the price of the room. Dated, thin towels, needed to go to front desk to pick up xtra blankets. Bed pretty uncomfortable. Front desk staff clearly “Iowa Nice” though!

Did not receive housekeeping services our entire stay. Hallways had a musty smell. Good location for the Wellmark Y. Breakfast was good.

Worst hotel experience in at least a decade. I could overlook the stained comforter, sticky carpet, missing remote control, and too-narrow garage parking spaces. I can’t overlook Pam (manager) overruling her staff’s decision to give us the (adjacent) rooms we’d reserved once they became available (they weren’t available the day we checked in even though we reserved them in advance) because she didn’t want to clean the one room we’d be vacating. She told my wife our family could leave if we didn’t like it. She told my wife she could write to corporate because corporate didn’t care and wouldn’t do anything. I’ve been to good Hyatt hotels. This isn’t one of them. The Marriott up the street—where others in our party stayed—is a lot cleaner with more amenities and a friendlier staff.
