Venture behind the curtain of one of the most mysterious organizations, The American Freemasons. This towering building serves as a memorial to George Washington, the man and the mason. With tours operating Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, it’s an impressive memorial to visit, and only a few blocks from our front door.

George Washington Masonic National Memorial

Spite House is the skinniest historic house in America at just 7 feet wide, located at 823 Queen Street. The private residence was originally constructed by John Hollensbury, who built it purely out of spite in 1830 to keep loiterers out of his adjacent alley. Today, it’s a great Instagram opportunity.

Tiny Spite House

This eclectic collection of artists and studios spread across several floors features works of art of all kinds for sale, and it’s said to be the largest collection of working artists under one roof in the United States. This former munitions plant is located at the end of King Street. Take time also to walk outside along the docks for great views across the water to Maryland.

Torpedo Factory Art Center

Located inside a converted house, this is a favorite café for many locals, serving up classic French dishes in a casual American style, using seasonal ingredients and sustainable practices to present you with croissants, omelets, sautéed lobster, and more.

Del Ray Café

Another local hangout, this long-standing Southern café uses seasonal ingredients to prepare dishes like duck hash and fried chicken with waffles featuring house-made hot sauce. Head upstairs to catch live musical performances.

Evening Star

Biscuits are the star at this unassuming café where you can grab a cup of delicious coffee and pair it with a buttermilk biscuit or a fried chicken biscuit sandwich with pimento cheese.

This intimate concert venue is known around the world for its impressive nightly lineup of popular musicians and up-and-coming artists who all represent the best of jazz, country, R&B, folk, and bluegrass.

Birchmere

America’s most famous military cemetery covers 624 acres with more than 400,000 graves that date back to before the Civil War. Some key sites visitors like to see include The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier that overlooks the cemetery from atop a hill and the grave site of President John F. Kennedy.

Arlington National Cemetery

Visit the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, one of the most iconic images from World War II. This bronze statue in Arlington Ridge Park recreates the iconic photograph of Marines raising the American flag during the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Welcome to Washington D.C.’s first true waterfront community. Take a water taxi from Old Town Alexandria to the Wharf to experience waterfront dining and shopping or catch a show at The Anthem music venue.

District Wharf

The long, grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Check out the U.S. Capitol, which sits on the far east end of the mall, and the White House to the north. Many of the Smithsonian museums line the mall, making them easy to visit in a single day.
