    Disappointment

    1. Check in line was too long. No staff at the member check in area. So what is the point of being a member for 15+ years? 2. There were major issues with noises. Some kids kept on bumping music two days in a row. And the security only came to warn them. We could barely sleep. 3. This hotel should be more firm on rules especially to noise and environment to all customers. Unruly, loud and rude customers should be kept an eye on all the time.

Great location with a view for visiting Athens

Convenient location for visiting the city, half hour walk to the city center or short cab right. Hotel staff are amazing and the pools and roof top bar are worth visiting.

Spectacular Views, Wonderful Breakfast, but oh that Bed!

We spent three nights at the Grand Hyatt Athens and found plenty to love, although a few things kept it from being a five star experience for us. As Hyatt Globalists, we enjoyed breakfast upstairs and were lucky enough to snag an outdoor table overlooking the Acropolis one morning. What a wonderful way to start the day! The buffet was delicious, complete with champagne, and always well stocked. Service was a bit hit or miss—some mornings our coffee and juice arrived without asking, while other mornings we had to track them down. Nothing terrible, just a little inconsistent. We love exploring cities on foot, so the location worked well for us. We walked to the Acropolis and enjoyed discovering Athens along the way. Our high-floor room overlooking the interior pool was nice and peaceful, although I think we'd try an exterior-facing room next time. We really enjoyed the Grand Club, and the rooftop pool at sunset was absolutely gorgeous! We caught it one evening, and I'm so glad we did. Checkout took a little patience with all the cruise passengers coming and going, but getting a taxi to the port was incredibly easy. The one real disappointment was the bed. It was simply too firm for us, and my husband barely slept during our stay. Poor guy spent much of our Athens adventure exhausted, and trust me, he hasn't let me forget it! Would we return? Possibly, there really was a lot to appreciate about this hotel, and the staff generally made us feel welcome. Athens was wonderful, the Acropolis views were unforgettable, and we made some great memories. I just wish we'd both been a little more rested to enjoy them!

    Beatiful place but over priced

The view is beautiful but everything comes at a price here. Breakfast was excellent. The elevators seem to always be busy or full so be prepared for long wait times. Check in is also very slow so be prepared to wait for that as well. The spa is fantastic and one of the best perks of the hotel. The club loung is dissapointing and the limited food options do not change from day to day.

    Style over comfort

Noisy, crowded, and unreliable housekeeping. The balcony offers no insulation from street noise, so the room is loud at all hours. The property was crowded and had ongoing internal maintenance work. Housekeeping entered the room whenever they pleased, even with guests inside, and on one day never showed up at all. Not recommended for anyone who values quiet or privacy. Beautiful rooftop pool, but too cold to swim. The pool looks great, but the water is freezing, so actually swimming is nearly impossible. Better for photos than for a dip.

Beautiful facilities, customer service needs much work

A beautiful hotel with fantastic amenities, including a rooftop pool that overlooks the Acropolis as well as a Grand lounge. however, that's the end of the positive view of the hotel. We were booked for three nights stay and graciously upgraded to a corner suite as globalist, however, we learned one night into our stay that they do not the upgrade for the entire reservation and as us move on the second night which is highly deserved. They shouldn't have upgraded us if they cannot guarantee the upgrade for all three nights which was under the same name, especially since that meant we had to spend extra time packing and unpacking on a day that we had many activities booked. When moved to the second room they downgraded us all the way to a a two twin bed basically at street level as they had no other availability in the hotel for two beds. In this new room, they didn't haveenough towels or robes for our 3 guests. Whenever we called that reception for additional items such as towels, robes and a roll of bed usually require three to four calls before they delivered the right quantity of the requested item. On our last evening of our stay, we inform the front desk that we were leaving early or at 6:30 a.m. Check out, and requested for breakfast boxes at 6:00 a.m for pickup, which they initially were happy to provide, and took our names down. Lo and behold, on our morning of check out, there were no breakfast boxes to be found, and we did not have last morning breakfast as a normal benefit for a globalist stay. The 2 star front desk and customer service for this hotel really put to shame the five star rating on that this hotel seems to have on Google. despite the beautiful hotel, I will not be eager to return to stay.

    Great hotel and great views

The hotel is very nice, clean and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The hotel has a great breakfast and is centrally located in the city. The only downside is that we traveled outside of travel season, so the hotel did not provide transportation to and from the airport.

    Poor Location

This is not a good location. It is near several sex clubs, is loud on weekend nights and we had multiple issues with taxi drivers not wanting to take us to this hotel from the city center.

    A real Hyatt in Athens

Very nice hotel, clean and full amenities. Its SPA is a little bit pricier than outside of the hotel but it is worth to try. Food, beverage inside the hotel more expensive than outside. In about 1-2 kilometers away from nice restaurants and near some famous nightclubs in Athens. Rooftop pool is something you should never miss. Overall it is a true Hyatt level hotel. Highly recommended for couples , business trips.

Not a nice hotel at all..

Unfortunately our experience was not great. We arrived to the hotel and were greeted with a very long line at the check in desk. We wanted early check in but it was not available, I get it. However, check in time was 3 pm and one of our connecting rooms was ready at 3:20, which is past check in time. When we arrived in the rooms, the connecting door between them was locked, it took hours and multiple calls to front desk to get the doors unlocked so we can use the connecting rooms we paid for. Overall hotel has a dingy feeling, definitely in need of some TLC. Right next door is an abandoned building with broken windows, graffiti and trash all over. There are a handful of cafes walking distance from the hotel but nothing major. The rooftop pool needs a cleaning a well, the water looked murky.

    A slightly disappointing stay

Super slow check-in, the staff was very nice and accommodating. The room was clean. The bed was good, but there was no view and the overall area wasn’t as nice as other parts of Athens that we’ve stayed

    Nice hotel, terrible check-in process.

Awful check-in process. Took almost an hour - absolute amateur way to run a busy big-name hotel. Ended up going out to dinner then checking in at 11pm when the queue was done. Complete joke.

    worst experience as a Globalist

Stood in line 45 minutes to check in, while they allowed an entire Air France crew to cut to the front of the line. No Elite line, just one chaotic line of people needing everything from check-in to a new key. Was promised the room at 3 PM, but at 3, I stood in line - another 45 minutes - to be told it would be 4. Same thing happened at 4. Check-in was understaffed and generally rude While the pool area is nice, the rest of the hotel is in poor condition, from carpet stains to beat-up walls. Really pretty shocking for a Hyatt the Club Lounge was truly bad - served the same food every day of our six night stay (chicken salad sandwiches). Would have been bad if it was just one night - but all six nights? I can say nothing nice about this hotel. It was definitely my worst stay as a Globalist. Hyatt should get their name off of this property because it is hurting the brand. I'd also suggest an overhaul of management - this many problems, along with the poor staff, tells me that a change is necessary

Disappointing value for money despite some excellent features

There are certainly some very positive aspects to this hotel. It was very clean throughout, and the staff were consistently polite, helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent, with a very good selection and quality. However, I found it unusual that water and juices were not readily available for self-service and had to be served by staff upon request. This made something very simple unnecessarily inconvenient. The rooftop offers an excellent view of the Acropolis, particularly from the side of the pool area, and the hotel is also conveniently located relatively close to Syntagma Square and the Parliament. Unfortunately, the negatives significantly affected our overall experience. The quality of the food served at lunch and dinner was particularly disappointing, especially considering the prices. The children's fish fingers and chicken nuggets appeared to be very basic, low-cost products. We also ordered the beef fillet for two, which was low quality and extremely dry. I appreciate that we requested it well done, but a well-done fillet should not be a punishment if it is properly prepared. Even the fries were of very basic quality. Overall, the restaurant food was simply not at the standard one would expect from a hotel in this price category. The swimming pool water was surprisingly cold despite the very hot weather, making it difficult to enjoy. The reception was frequently busy, with long queues, and the lifts were also extremely busy, often involving considerable waiting. The immediate surroundings are another important consideration, particularly for families. The street has a noticeable concentration of adult-oriented establishments, which creates an atmosphere that does not feel particularly comfortable or inviting for walking with children, especially later in the day. We were also surprised to see four or five visibly armed police officers positioned around the rooftop pool area. Whatever the reason for their presence, it certainly did not contribute to a feeling of being in a relaxed and secure environment. There were also occasions when we encountered people in the hotel lifts dressed extremely revealingly. Of course, how individual guests choose to dress is not something the hotel can control. However, combined with the character of the immediate neighbourhood, the overall atmosphere did not always feel particularly family-oriented or comfortable when travelling with young children. Finally, our experience with taxi drivers serving guests directly outside the hotel was particularly unpleasant. For a journey of approximately five minutes, the taximeter showed around €6, yet the driver aggressively insisted that “for Hyatt customers, the minimum charge is €15”. Regardless of the amount involved, this attitude and practice left a very poor impression and is something the hotel should be aware of when taxis are serving its guests. Overall, the cleanliness, excellent breakfast, helpful staff and Acropolis views are definite strengths. However, considering the location, the restaurant quality and several aspects of the overall experience, the hotel felt significantly overpriced for what it offers.

    Disappointing stay

Very disappointed. Stood in line +45 minutes to check in. No one working “World of Hyatt” check in counter. No housekeeping service despite 4 nights at the hotel. Regency Lounge was generous with drinks but dismal with food selection every day. Using Globalist award but were told we could not have breakfast in the restaurant despite lounge breakfast not starting until 8 am. Had to appeal this to Reception.

    Not a bad choice

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Athens early September, for a couple of days to see Athens. They provide shuttle services to the public garden which is a very short walk from main attractions in Athens. They also provide private drivers for a fee that can accomdate any day trips and airport transportation, we really enjoyed this service as they were very accommodating, willing to add additional stops, and friendly to talk to. They use upgraded vehicles and provided us with cold water each time we used them. Their breakfast has many options, though we were disappointed with the lack of consideration for a celiac guest. Their gluten free section had a none gluten free item, and they weren’t always accommodating or knowledgeable in that area in both the restaurants and breakfast, which was disappointing. Other than that, the pool facilities are excellent, and the indoor spa and sauna are definitely worth it. Be warned that some rooms utilized a shower with drainage issues and often flooded, and used a semi-transparent glass that could be seen from the bedroom so there isn’t much privacy. As for location, it’s a bit away from the center, and you’re across from a strip club. I do NOT reccomend trying to walk there to Athens. We did, and there were areas with no sidewalks, street lighting, or pedestrian friendly. It’s not a great neighborhood so proceed with caution. There’s a few nice cafes behind the hotel but other than that, better to order in at night for safety. On the bright side, because it’s further from Athens, it is quieter at night and most rooms come with a balcony, which provide a beautiful view.

Thank you Hyatt, for a pleasurable stay

Overall this was a great hotel and its amenities make up for rooms being subpar for a Hyatt, pools where extremely clean well kept enough to satisfy everyone, the rest chairs and beds beautifully done and always towels on hand, we particularly love the garden pool as we had it to ourselves for at least an hour and the rooftop. While the drinks are expensive they are well made, generous on the gin ( loved it) The rooms need work and so does the check in and out process, there not equipped for massive incoming of crowds at once like most large hotels, so be extremely patient, its not the staffs fault when there is only 2 maybe 3 serving large crowds . Elevators are slow, and small. the breakfast is worth every penny on the top floor, truly overall clean, great facilities, gym, pool, spa restaurant and main bar, staff is super professional and friendly and on the cleaner side for a large hotel. Rooms do need work, from toiletries offered in bathroom, to lighting and could use some modernization, but still nice rooms not bad for price. Kids and I loved it and would stay again.

    Be warned

One would expect a Grand Hyatt to deliver a certain standard of service and quality. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at the Grand Hyatt Athens. The issues began at check-in, which took more than 45 minutes. For a hotel of this size, having only two employees handling check-ins during a very busy arrival period is simply inadequate. The line stretched through the lobby and out the front door. When I finally reached the desk and asked about the delay, the receptionist, who was lovely despite clearly being overwhelmed, explained that she and her colleague were the only two staff members able to process check-ins. This felt like a significant staffing and management failure for a hotel of this scale. The room itself also showed signs of wear. The arm of the couch was noticeably dented and misshapen, which did not reflect the level of upkeep I would expect from a Grand Hyatt property. Unfortunately, the spa experience was equally disappointing. I was upsold to the “Cretan” massage based on the described treatment experience, but what I received did not seem to include several of the elements that had been presented to me. I left feeling disappointed rather than relaxed. The spa facilities were also far from tranquil. The pool and hot tub area was extremely loud, with guests carrying on conversations at a volume that made it difficult to relax. Towels were scattered around, pool chairs had been moved out of place, and the overall atmosphere felt more like a busy public pool than the serene spa environment I expected. Overall, the Grand Hyatt Athens left a poor impression. The individual employees I interacted with were pleasant, but the hotel itself felt understaffed, poorly maintained in places, and well below the standard I associate with the Grand Hyatt name. For the price and brand positioning, I expected considerably better.

    Expected better.

45mins to check in with no apology. The room had significant issues. The shower flooded with every use. Multiple light bulbs were not working. Room was very dilapidated. Writing all over the desk the door would not open/close properly. The bathroom speaker did not work. I explained this all to the front desk with zero care/consideration. Dinner on the roof top was great. Breakfast was 9 out of 10!!!

    Far Below Grand Hyatt Standards

Unfortunately, our stay at Grand Hyatt Athens was extremely disappointing and far below what I expected from this brand. The check-in process was very slow, and it took most of the day before we were finally settled into a room. The first room had problems with the door and very poor sound insulation. The replacement room was older, had a persistent smell of mould, and even the towels smelled unpleasant. The common areas also did not feel properly maintained. The elevators were visibly dirty and consistently overcrowded, with waits of around five minutes just to go up or down. Reception queues were extremely long as well. The service and handling of guest issues were equally disappointing. Staff training and efficiency clearly need improvement. I was particularly surprised when I asked for a first-aid kit after getting a cut and was instead given separate items such as cotton wool, scissors, antiseptic and plasters. A hotel accommodating this many guests should have proper first-aid supplies readily available and staff prepared to assist guests in such situations. Overall, the cleanliness, maintenance, organization and level of service were significantly below what I associate with Grand Hyatt and the Hyatt brand.
