Built in 1892 by Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III, the Aga Khan Palace is a national monument to India’s freedom movement. Following the launch of the Quit India movement in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi and his wife, Kasturba, along with their secretary, Mahadevbhai Desai, were imprisoned in the palace from August 9, 1942 to May 6, 1944.
