The beach is beautiful.  The resort is geared towards families with young children and not a place for relaxation for adults.  The beach chairs, umbrellas, and bikes are not included with the room and resort fee.

Wild Dunes Experience

We visited the resort to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The hotel was super accommodating and made us feel special. Beautiful resort and wonderful staff.

Half business trip and half personal. Everything was just ok. Very pricey for the quality of the resort, food and drinks.

The staff at Wild Dunes was amazing! Philasila was incredibly helpful and even remembered me throughout the length of my stay!

Excellent Stay!

The hotel is clean. We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn which was also much quieter than Sweetgrass. The service at the front desk and valet are friendly and helpful. Staff at Laughing Gull were also friendly and knowledgeable. Coastal Crust was delicious, but staff were a bit disorganized.

Great experience for a quick get away!

I went to Sweetgrass Inn to celebrate my daughter's 6th birthday and the staff went above and beyond to ensure she had a ball and she did! The food was amazing and we loved the family friendly atmosphere. This is a must for family vacation. We plan on coming back!!!

This has become one of our "Go To Spots" for our family summer trip.  The Wild Dunes resort has it all from Pools, Beaches, great food and of course a few visits to the "Candy Shop!"

Terrible! Do not recommend. Elevators broken, hallways smell of smoke. Managers at the site have no authority to help and upper management doesn't return calls to resolve issues.

Do not recommend

This resort was everything we'd hoped for. We chose Wild Dunes for our annual company retreat this year and the accomodations were wonderful. From individuals to families of 9+, each room and/or villa perfectly suited our needs. The location was great - very close to the ocean with private access - and the amenities were just right for a cozy, intimate time away with friends and colleagues. The food was great, the place was very clean, and the service was top-notch. Highly recommend, even for large parties or even family reunions.

Perfect Family Gathering Place

The room didn’t have hot water. They took hours to come check. Someone came on Friday night confirmed the shower water was cold told us someone would come next day until noon to fix. Yes, noon… cold shower until then. Ridiculous. No one came on Saturday. We called again another maintenance guy came to check. Water was still not hot. After that no one came back. We left Sunday and nothing was done. A lady from the hotel offered to bring some toys for my kids that were not feeling well and no one brought the toys too. The service is really bad. They don’t have lunch and dinner in the room. The menu for breakfast was very limited. No kids menu in the room. Which is shocking because this hotel is for family with kids.

Do not recommend the hotel

The room was nice but the lack of room service for a resort that's charging like it's an upscale resort was upsetting, the pools were cloudy and not as clean as I expected. Customer service was great, very friendly and responsive. We were disappointed with the restaurants on site, we ate at all except the pizza joint, the food selection was terrible and the food we did order was overpriced and tasteless. There are many great reviews about this resort and I guess if you haven't been to many resorts sweetgrass would be great but for us it fell well short of what I consider an luxury resort.

Potential Maybe

It took about 25 minutes to check in, 6 people in line and 1 person working the check-in desk. People were leaving the line because it was taking to long. Phone never worked in the room.  Air was set to 68 but never went under 72.  On the last day, room temp was at 76 in the morning!  What a joke, 9 months pregnant without a functioning air conditioner. Husband looked at filter and it was completely dirty and disgusting.  Looks like it had not been changed in over a year. Parking is an absolute nightmare. Needs lines so people know where to actually park.  Resort has electric car charges, but they never worked. Food was worse than a school lunch but the price of a 5 star restaurant.  Pool was dirty everyday.  If you are going to have palm trees over the pool, you should maintain the trees so that dead leaves do not go into the pool.  Overall, I never would recommend this resort and will never go back.

What a Joke...

The bed/mattress is either from the 1970’s or pulled from a dumpster to save costs and repurposed. Rooms need a total overhaul, the old carpet is absolutely filthy. Elevators breaking, endless amount of bugs, I would avoid at all costs.

Wonderful resort.  Room was spacious. Staff was professional and courteous. Pool areas are all great.  We were there for a family wedding in Charleston and came a couple of days early to enjoy the beach with family and friends.

Great time in Charleston

I’ve stayed at Wild Dunes Resort multiple times, and it continues to be my favorite beach vacation. The resort is large and beautifully maintained, with multiple pools, great dining options, and direct beach access.
The service is always excellent, friendly and professional across the board. The food at the resort is great, but one of the things I really like is that there are also plenty of restaurants nearby if you feel like venturing out.
Whether you're relaxing by the pool, walking the beach, or enjoying a good meal, it’s just a great atmosphere overall. Highly recommend and already looking forward to my next stay.

My Favorite Beach Vacation Spot!

Excellent space for meetings as well as vacations! Everything is clean and the staff is so helpful!! The food is excellent, and there are many options for different diets. The event planning arm is accommodating and  there is genuine, warm hospitality!

Wonderful option for family, friends, or business!

This place has thought of everything. The spa was beautiful and clean and the rest of the property was well-appointed and laid out well.

Next time I'm bringing the family!

Please be specific when asking for a balcony. There are several balconies that do not have a view, due to the barrier being a cement wall. After much of a go with management- we were told “well a balcony was provided!”  One would have to stand and peer over to see anything but sky. Specify that you want a view when seated on the balcony (through slats), not a wall! I know that the cement wall is there for aesthetic purposes, but that information should be divulged at the time of booking. Had we been able to get a refund (we were denied bc a balcony was provided), we would have gone to a different beach resort in Charleston where we have never ever had a problem and the valets actually take your luggage to the room for you!
The ammenities and the restaurants were stellar!!! Cannot complain about the food at all, and several different choices.

A Viewless Balcony

The Sweetgrass hotel and staff were excellent, but the pool was VERY crowded.  I booked a room at the Boardwalk, but they moved us to the Sweetgrass. (short walk, it was fine) There were TONS of kids everywhere and no umbrellas available at the main pool.  The adults only pool had very little shade and was packed as well. The beach had 4 layers of beach chairs and was the most crowded beach I've seen in awhile. If you want rest and relaxation this might not be the place for you - I wouldn't recommend it for a couples vacation.  But, if you have a bunch of kids they would probably love it.

Excellent Hotel but Crowded Pool

This resort is huge and has everything you need. We stayed in the Boardwalk Inn, which was nice but definitely well loved. The room was comfortable and mostly clean, but could have used some deep cleaning. The beach was easy to access and we enjoyed the pools. Overall a nice stay, but I don't feel it is worth the nightly rates.

Good stay, but not worth it.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Boardwalk Inn and the room was the perfect size. We kept the thermostat at 68 and it was the perfect escape from the outside temperature. The valets were extremely friendly and recognized our group (we were a group of 12 with 3 vehicles). The beach was great - my brother-in-law commented that he liked this beach better than Waikiki! The restaurant by the beach was fantastic, especially the coconut shrimp. We had a blast and already want to go back!

Great family vacation

No need to leave. This resort has everything! Pools,beaches, golf, biking, restaurants, and tons of kids activities.

Best beach vaca

Everything about our stay was excellent. The valet delivered our luggage promptly to our room and chatted as we made our way. If you have a business group and need a meal catered in one of their facilities, you won't regret it. The food is excellently prepared and plated, and our two meals ran flawlessly. We will be back!

Great experience in every way!

Cleanliness of room and pools was extremely lacking.  Very uncomfortable mattress.  Floor in room was noticeable uneven.  Front beach restaurant staff was very inattentive, had to wait on ourselves.   Never noticed any management person around.  No oversight it seemed.

Stay Elsewhere.

Very nice & comfortable Accomodations.  Staff were very welcoming and attentive to our needs.  Great hotel for business conference.  A lot to do for family too.

As always, Wild Dunes Resort Boardwalk and Sweetgrass Inn meets and exceeds our expectations. The helpful staff, the choice of diverse rooms and room settings, the beautiful beach, nature, and activities are peaceful and rejuvenating. We return again and again to Wild Dunes because of the mix of professionalism of the staff, quality of the hotel offerings, beautiful natural setting, activities, and accessibility of the whole resort.

Wild Dunes Resort Never Disappoints!

Very clean and well maintained, good choice of amenities, numerous food and drink options. Everything is well within walking distance from either location. Pools are nice, both locations having nice food and beverage facilities at their pools. Close to the beach.

Always enjoy our time there!

Check in went smoothly and our room location was perfect.  The bed was comfy and the air worked great, beyond that I wasn't impressed.  Lots of amenities available at a price, be prepared. Also getting Ubers/Lifts to and from can be a challenge.

Not my cup of tea.

Did not realize that the resort was so young family focused. Our experience could have been improved with more info about appropriate venues: would have spent more time in boardwalk and pavilion. Beach was not easily accessible. It was more do it yourself than we are used to.

Great for young families. We were mispaved being older and looking for more service, luxury.

The rooms were small but clean, staff was friendly and accommodating. The on site restaurant "oyster catcher" was excellent and exceeded our expectations. The pool was over crowded with people with day passes and local residents. Children were unsupervised, jumping in the hot tub and diving into shallow end of pool. The hot tub was closed due to a sanitary related incident. We visited the adult only pool the next day. This was a nicer pool but frigid and no hot tub and a bit of a walk from our room. Overall a good weekend just not the resort feeling we were looking for.

Great for families with children 6-12 , maybe not single couple

The facility was so clean and the staff incredible!  The food was excellent, and the location was so beautiful!  Everyone at the location was terrific and so helpful.  We enjoyed every minute and hated to leave. We were there for business; however, the facility is great for families too!

Family room, 2 bedrooms. Clean rooms, beautiful bathrooms. Great customer service with bellhop/valet and front desk service. You don't have to leave the premises. Several food options. Several pools to choose from. A short walk to the beach.

Enjoyed our stay

The room was great. Don't expect an ironing board or iron, only a handheld steamer was in the room. I was there on business and expected to have an iron to prep my attire, nope none. Everything on site is very expensive. So if you are planning a trip with children, beware of the costs. There really is not anything in walking distance to get anything, which forces you to use their store. A few bag of chips and a 
two drink cost me 60.00. So plan accordingly.

Just an ok resort

The rooms at the Sweet Grass Inn are newly rennovated and clean.  The lobby area is very nice and the spa seems nice except it was booked so i only saw the retail area.  We came for pickleball camp which was good but there is a disconnect with the hotel and the camp for a checkout time that coincides with the camp ending time.  

The complimentary coffee in the morning is undrinkable, it tastes like warm dull flavored water.  Getting a sit down breakfast in the morning is very slow in both hotel restaurants and the grab and go market is overcrowded and a long wait.

The property gives off a mediocore Disney vibe.  The pools are either family run or very small for the adult area and very run down.  There are two pools by the beach but can never get access on a weekend due to the weddings.  The beach is filled with seaweed and you have to rent very old uncomfortable lounge chairs to sit at the beach.

This resort has potential to be better, it's just average now.  To be fair i normally stay at higher end properties.

This was the perfect location to celebrate our 11th year wedding anniversary!  The beach was perfect, clean, kid friendly, and the wait staff on the beach strand were very friendly, if someone understaffed.  I would highly recommend renting the beach chairs and umbrella from the resort.  The food was standard across the board.  The best things we ate while there were the crunch wrap from "Tacos and Tequila" and the lamb from "Coastal Provisions."  Our room in the Sweetgrass building was very clean and the hotel staff and valets were outstanding.  The highlight of our trip was the spa which is a must do if we ever stay here again.    If you're looking for a place for a special occasion or just a quick get away I would highly recommend Wild Dunes Resort.

An amazing stay at an amazing location!

My wife and I came here for our babymoon.  Wild Dunes was absolutely perfect for it.  There are multiple pools, restaurants, and beach access all in one spot.  We spent a day at each pool and usually ended with some time on the beach, then walked to any restaurant at night.  Really great place for couples but also families, there is such a variety of activities to do.  We didn't even visit the athletic courts or golf courses (unfortunately).  We had a blast, we will definitely be coming back with our family in the future.

I come to this resort by myself every year for my birthday.  Some think I'm crazy but it is such a wonderful relaxing few days and I go home very refreshed!  Jason at the front desk welcomed me with kindness and professionalism.  He found out why I was there and that I had been visiting for over 20 years.  He made it a point to upgrade my room without me asking; so very kind.  AND, Bobby at the General Store always welcomes me by name.  Great way to feel valued!

Feel very valued!!!

Wild Dunes resort met all our expectations. Everything you need is at your fingertips. We parked the car and never left the resort. Our stay was fabulous. The market place and pizza place staff were the best. I never encountered just friendly people

April trip to Sweetgrass Inn with my wife

It is a good place for family events; though they are missing activities! Not many options for food choices! The place is nice and clean but pool area needs a bit or work and some staff aren't able to answer questions. Front desk staff is nice but valet is slow!

A bit expensive for the experience

Wanted to love this place but did not live up to expectations or the price. Rips in our sheets and bathrobe , fridge didn’t work and was never able to be fixed over our 4 night stay. Coffee in lobby was really watery and not drinkable. Nearby food options were all so overpriced and not good/minimal selection. Loved the pools and beach and drinks but wouldn’t pay these prices to stay here again and would choose a different location unfortunately

Wouldn’t return for the price

This was a great place for a girlfriends reunion. We stayed at the Sweetgrass. Wild Dunes is a beautiful resort with a top notch staff, great restaurants and a fantastic spa. We really enjoyed the gentle yoga class. Everything was clean and  in new condition.  Every staff member was friendly,  helpful and attentive to our needs.

Wonderful Getaway

The resort was very clean, and the pools were exciting. The beach location was nice. Some of the staff was polite and helpful, however some were rude and short. We were there for a spa day and two-day rest and reset. The spa was limited, and we ended up getting a massage and facial in town. The activities yoga/core were canceled without noticed. This was frustrating because we were there for only two days and waited most of the morning for the activities. The food was very bland and unimpressive for the cost. Out room was very clean, however also average, nothing impressive to note on. There was only one mirror in the bathroom, balcony very small, no water/food in room or room service. A positive is the beds were comfortable, and the air worked well. Overall, we spent most of the time off resort, which is not what was intended upon booking.

Girls Spa Day Trip

I would say overall the hotel was decent but outdated given the high reviews. Would definitely not recommend for single people as the walls are quite thin. Went to attend a wedding and I like to go to bed at a reasonable time. The room next to me apparently attended another wedding as well and arrived back to the room at 1130p. Because the walls were so thin I had to listen to the mans wife complain for 1.5 hours about the place settings for the wedding and the food, also how if they listened to her the wedding would have been a lot better and could have saved money. Kuddos to you my man, your a champ for listening the whole time and thank you for reminding me why I am single

Spring Break trip with my family of five (kids ages 12, 9, and 7), celebrating my son’s 7th birthday while we were there. The service was truly top-notch—super clean, awesome pools, and great food options that won’t break the bank. One standout moment: the concierge surprised us by leaving a birthday gift in our room for my son, complete with candy, beach toys, and a handwritten note. That was next-level service. We don’t drink alcohol, so I can’t speak to the pricing there, but everything else made for an incredible family getaway.

Amazing Spring Break Experience  for our Family of 5

The accommodations were great at Sweetgrass. Our adjoining rooms were large and the beds extremely comfortable. All was very clean. What was truly special were all of the folks on staff that were courteous, efficient and genuinely caring to make sure that our stay was perfect.

Great long weekend visiting family

Room 303A - Bare basics room with non-functioning necessities for travel. Safe buttons did not work. Maintenance could not fix it. Replaced safe with another one but the door was bent and would not close. Had to carry valuables and laptop everywhere. Shower regulator broken - either cold or scalding hot temperature for shower. Was an unpleasant experience the entire weekend.

This was a wonderful stay for our family. We had a 2 bedroom family suite. It was so spacious and perfect for us. We had 3 young children who needed to nap and we were able to put them in one room while the older children/adults were able to do other activities. The full kitchen and kitchen amenities were wonderful to use, especially the coffee maker. I was able to order popsicles to keep in the freezer for the kids to have. We would love to return to this resort. The kids area pools and zero entry for little kids was wonderful.

Great stay

Friendly and personable front desk personnel.  Enjoyed the location and proximity to Charleston. Group meals were excellent - not the usual hotel convention/banquet food.  Meeting room was comfortable. I always appreciate the opportunity to visit the resort.

Friendly staff!

The service at Wild Dunes will exceed your expectations.  The entire service staff are attentive to the needs of their customers and make you feel welcome.  My wife was beyond impressed with the spa experience.  She also has a serious food allergy and the staff was extremely accommodating and attentive.

Service above and beyond

Gorgeous property, extremely friendly and helpful staff, rooms very clean and beautifully decorated. Comfortable bed, and delicious food. Different restaurant options were a bonus. Views are breathtaking from the rooftop, and even though it is so beautiful, there is a casual, relaxing vibe.

A little patch of paradise

Clean and beautiful hotel.  Staff were pleasant and helpful.  The rooms were very nice and the beds were comfortable.  I stayed there for business but had a chance to take a walk on the beach which was spectacular.  It was very cold and I had the beach to myself but it was gorgeous!

Positive experience

Overall the value did not meet the price. While the property is nice and there are a lot of amenities, the room was much less than what I expected for the price we paid. I requested an ocean view room and I got a view of a construction site. You could make out the ocean over the roofs of the houses being built. There was absolutely no benefit to that view. We should have been told that the ocean view really was just a view of the other houses. The king size bed was equipped with children's pillows that frankly were quite uncomfortable.  Only one elevator worked and it didn't work all the time. Overall, I would not recommend this to a couple looking for a romantic getaway.

Less than perfect

Love the new upgrade to the rooms. The furniture was up to date and new. The light fixtures were a great new addition. The beds were updated and comfortable. I love the fact that there were 50 inch tvs in every room. The view to the ocean was fantastic too.

Quick trip

I visited for a business conference and then came back for a few days of relaxation later that week. Both were incredible experiences.

The most important factor to me in rating a hotel is cleanliness. The Sweetgrass Inn (rooms, restaurants and common areas) is immaculate all day and night long. Even during my conference when the hotel was very busy.  The service levels were above any expectations I set, and those were lofty. To add to the perfection, having shops to roam around in and a variety of restaurants all on site made it convenient. I never had to leave.

Though both the facility and service levels of the Sweetgrass Inn exceeded my expectations, the stars were Elizabeth Simmons and Tahera Brown at the front desk. In 0one week I stayed for both a business meeting and then came back a few days later for pleasure. BOTH times I actually felt as if I was the owner of the hotel, and they were trying to impress me. My first encounter was with Elizabeth, whose professionalism and knowledge of the hotel far exceeded any expectation I may have had. The hotel was very busy for check-ins, and she remained calm and kind, giving me all the time I needed with questions. Her very warm and welcoming personality coupled with her obvious commitment to service stood out as exceptional. You can tell she is not just an employee, but a travel industry professional.  My next encounter was with the very personable, professional and hard-working Tahera. She wanted nothing more than to accommodate my needs. And she went the extra mile to ensure I knew what I needed to know and felt like a valued guest. Another charming and warm personality.

I actually asked to speak to the manager, Matthew Whiteheart, to compliment him on Elizabeth and Tahera. Meeting him showed exactly why the hotel runs so efficiently and the staff is so well trained. He even took my luggage to my car. He engaged fully n what I had to say and welcomed feedback.

And can't finish without mentioning Harris and Pierce at the parking/bell station. These two young men hustled every time I saw them. They never walked; they ran. They went out of their way to remember the guests and greet them in a friendly professional manner.

Any time I am in the Charleston area, the Sweetgrass Inn will be my go-to hotel. Thank you for sharing these remarkable professionals with me.

Immaculate Resort, Professional Service Levels and Everything in One Place

I stayed at Wild Dunes for a quick weekend getway to celebrate the New Year and had a lovely stay. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating and my room was spacious, clean and beautifully designed. The walkable beach access was perfect and I cannot wait to stay here again!

10/10 resort stay!

Forgive me is the name is wrong but I believe it was Boipelo. She was by far the best customer service professional I have ever come across. She greeted me by name every time I came through the lobby and even asked another women how she was enjoying her birthday celebrations. That level of commitment and memory is astonishing and extremely appreciated. Mind you my organization had over 107 rooms for the weekend and she still could call people out directly.

Staff is S+ tier quality

The resort is beautiful, excellent for our convention, workshops and seminars. The rooms are comfortable, great beds, great bathroom lighting, and good quality toiletries. Loved that they had a clothes steamer in the room. The staff was very friendly and respectful. A wonderful stay.

Perfect place for our convention

We’ve been to Wild Dunes multiple times over the years and always enjoy our stay. Nothing changed on this visit, with the exception of some of the new amenities. We were surprised at the activity at the pool for a Dec visit, which was thoroughly heated and well staffed. The food and service were excellent, and the overall location and convenience to Charleston an added plus.

Last minute work/NYE trip!

The staff at this resort are exceptional. Very timely service, very kind people. The rooms are clean, quiet, and comfortable. The beach is easily accessible, and there are plenty of pool areas to enjoy throughout the resort. I went around the holidays, and the decorations were very festive.

Very clean and professional staff at this venue. Felt safe in the area when walking on the board walk. Beautiful sunrise and boardwalk.  Fire fit area was my favorite areas along with the shops and spa.  Friendly staff and amazing food for breakfast and pool bar area.

Experience

Very impressed with my first trip to Wild Dunes. Will return for sure with a longer stay. Staff, settings, conditions..better than expected! Everything was within walking distance and the food was very good in all restaurants. Gym and lap pool very good. Racket sports programs had wonderful pros.

Great resort!

Sweetgrass Inn- clean, comfortable rooms. Several pools, fireside pits, beach side. Front desk staff during check in not the friendliest, night shift front desk girl was pleasant and friendly. There's several dining options on the property. It's 30 mins drive to the airport and to Charleston. Not blown away.

wonderful stay

I have run dozens of large conferences and Wild Dunes thought of EVERYTHING to make the execution of the event flawless. Aside from that, the grounds are fabulous, and our staff truly got to unwind when we weren't meeting. 10/10 would go back and recommend to anyone.

They Thought of Everything!

Absolutely loved this resort! It was almost like its own little community. Although I didn’t bring children with me, it definitely looks very child friendly. It had lots of little shops and restaurants and like I said it was like its own little village. It was very comfy with lots of places to relax and just hang out and read a book or talk outside. Highly recommend.

It’s quite expensive for the price. We stayed in the broad walk inn side and I thought the hotel was a bit dated. We got a junior suite room with a dining area but no kitchen utensils. Not even mugs or wine glasses. Not sure why they put us in the boardwalk inn and not sweet grass since we are a family so we had to walk over to sweetgrass for the kids pool.

Not worth the money

Stayed in the residence section and not in the Boardwalk Inn as reserved. My room could have been in any mid-grade motel. When you go to market as a resort and reservations are made for the Boardwalk Inn and the customer only discovers they are being placed in an alternative accommodation when they check in, it is not a success.

It was OK

The resort itself is beautiful. The amenities are nice, and the room was gorgeous. I didn't expect my premium view to be of the pool, but I could see the ocean far in the distance. The biggest factor in being disappointed in this hotel was the food. For the price, the food was extremely greasy and not the quality that I would have anticipated. When trying to find something a bit more affordable for food we ate at Woody's and it was very disappointing.

I absolutely loved the experience.  The accommodations were amazing. The hotel room was beautiful.  We loved the view of the stores from our balcony. All of the retailers were genuinely helpful. This was my first time visiting but definitely will not be my last.

Nice resort but lacking some basic amenities

The Wild Dunes Resort was exceptionally well maintained and all of the staff were professionally dressed and very helpful. The Resort has all that you need right on premises for a relaxing time! You can enjoy fine dinning, golf, tennis, spa, pickelball, shopping, swimming and sunning, and of course the Ocean is within two hundred yards, with golf carts to assist those needing help!

What a Beautiful and Quiet Relaxing Resort

While the resort is fantastic, what really surprised us was the food.  We were there 5 nights and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also ate at nearly every restaurant.  Every one of them was fantastic and the Nest bar bartender is a wonderful cocktail creator.

Wild Dunes Resort Fun

I travel a lot and there seems ton an effort to save the hotel money but control of the HVAC system.  I am all about efficiency but I do not expect to give up control of the thermostat.  When I request it to be remedied it should be fixed.  Instead they offered a box fan.

The staff at each of the eating establishments were attenuative and friendly and made meal time enjoyable and special.

Staff was super friendly and accommodating.  Hotel is clean and comfortable.  Great with kids or adults only trip alike

Wild Dunes Great for Personal or business trip

Beautiful resort.  We had a wonderful time.  BUT there are many hidden fees and your bill could be $100 or more extra dollars per night with the resort fee, beach fee, taxes and different room rates for different nights of the week/weekend.
Hotel was nicely maintained except the bathroom vents are disgusting and made me wonder about the overall cleanliness of the HVAC system.

The location of Wild Dunes is extraordinary.  The residential section is well kept and the homes are attractive.  The Sweetgrass and Boardwalk Hotels have the potential to be wonderful.  The welcome staff is friendly, rooms, tidy with contemporary design.  However, the elevator and hallways were not kept to the same standard.  The food options sounded good upon arrival but in reality were very disappointing- expensive and not good.  The beach chair rentals were ridiculously overpriced.  The lack of self parking was frustrating too.  Forced us into valet at an additional expense.  With the exception of Coastal Provisions, the staff at Sweetgrass was friendly, helpful and pleasant.  I   would not recommend this resort and am certain we would have been better off at airbnb nearby.  

Overpriced with potential to be awesome

Rooms were average and in some respects below average for the price per night. But the overall resort and activities available are great. 

Rooms Average, Resort Great

We stayed at the Sweetgrass Hotel in September 2024.  Our stay was nice, rooms were clean and nice, and the resort is beautiful.  The food is very pricey for what you get but tasted fine.  Expect to spend an outrageous amount on food for a family.  Staff were great, housekeeping was great and overall, the resort is beautiful.  I attended a conference but will go back.  

Sweetgrass

We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn at the Wild Dunes Resort the second week of September and it was wonderful.  Everything was so nicely laid out, clean and well maintained.   the breakfast at the Boardwalk in is great, starting your day with “The Southern” breakfast was perfect and we did not want to eat lunch.  We can hardly wait to return away.

Wonderful beach get away

We stayed at the Boardwalk, and had an unexpectedly lovely time during our weekend stay. This place is great, better than I would've ever anticipated. We loved our room, loved the restaurant ( Coastal Provisions ), and were immediatly impressed with the friendliness and pleasant attitude of the entire staff. Everybody seems genuinely happy to help you here, and I don't mean in a creepy fake way. It's just like they are nice, happy people. It struck us right away. The hotel itself, is close to mint. I don't like seeing paint peeling or dirty carpet - I like when everthing seems fresh and clean and this place is that. The closest thing I can compare this to is Disney. You know that Disney perfection? It's kind of like that. In fact, the whole place has a Disney-like feel, with the boardwalk and the little townhouses. I never would've come here ( we were there for a wedding ) but now I'm thinking I can't wait to go back. This hotel put Charleston on a must visit again list for me. That said, there were a few tiny things that could've made it even better. I didn't like the flimsy plastic cups they give you in the room. It would've been better if they were hard plastic, but to be honest, plastic cups just feel cheap and low rent. I just wanted 2 glasses. I also would've like room service which the Boardwalk doesn't have. Ths was hard to understand because they have a restaurant right in the building. It would've been nice to have cocktails or a small breakfast service in our room on the morning we were leaving. The adult only pool is lovely. We had ordered a cabana at the main pool at Sweet Grass but it was right in front of the kiddie pool and the opposite of what we were looking for. If you order a cabana and don't have kids, make sure you request one further away. On the other hand if you have kids, you want that first one. Great place. Seriously.

Southern hospitality is not a myth

We were wedding guests.  Our room was on the fifth floor under the rooftop bar.  There was no soundproofing.  We could hear music, guests jumping, DJ talking.  It actually shook our room.  We had asked for champagne and roses to be delivered to the bride and groom following their ceremony.  We spoke with the concierge.  We offered to pay for the items.  We were told they would take car of it.  This is what was delivered:  TWO MINI BOTTLES OF CHEAP CHAMPAGNE, TWO COOKIES, AND TWO ROSES.  Shocked!  This hotel calls themselves a resort but it is far from it.  There was a convention of some sort.  The lobby was filled with drunks who were loud and obnoxious.  I have never seen a resort allow UberEats onto their properties.  This hotel should be on Tybee Island due to the party atmosphere and lack of resort quality experiences.  They even had a towel cabinet!  Every resort we have experienced have persons who will hand out towels, ask for orders, etc.  They pamper you.  This "resort" should be aligned with Motel 6.  I especially enjoyed the resort fee.  Really?  Self-service and you get charged for self service?

It is nicely decorated and clean.  This was the only good part of the trip.  

Below Expectations

We couldn't work out family logistics for a full week at the beach so we opted for a shorter, smaller get together at the residences instead of a stand alone condo with a full kitchen. It was great to have the small refrigerator for restaurant left overs and would have been even better if we could have warmed them up in a microwave.

Mini family retreat

Services , food,  cleanliness, etc were Outstanding... We always enjoy our stay at Wild Dunes. We have been coming here since 2004 and usually stay at the Boardwalk Inn.

Absolutely Incredible

The Boardwalk Inn is tired. The rooms are not updated and I feel falsely represented on website. The furniture is 25+ years old and I felt the value was very poor. Rooms are way overpriced for what is expected. Disappointing.

Boardwalk Inn was amazing

We stayed four nights the first week of September. We beat the labor day crowd so it wasnt busy at all. This is the first of what we would consider a luxury hotel or resort we have ever stayed at. We stayed at the  Boardwalk Inn. Could not be an easier walk to the beach. Plus the residential pools and the burger bar overlooking the beach is just perfect. All in all the staff was incredibly accommodating and pleasant. The beach and pools were our main attractions and they were better than expected. Just be aware of all the expenses before you book your stay with the family. There are several eateries and all of the food was great quality. For two, we were unable to spend less than $50 a meal plus tip so that added up quickly obviously. Also they want another $100+ for everything. A higher room floor. Beach chair rentals. Cabana rentals. $35 a day to valet your car. No free breakfast. Just some things that I think are costly for already paying $300 plus for a standard room. The spa was delightful. Also pricey though. We payed $390 plus tip for one massage and facial. Overall good experience but probably won't be returning for the additional costs. Highly suggest visiting Boone Hall Plantation while you are there. It's just a 20 minute drive to those beautiful oak trees.

Family Vacay

Cons: I stayed the Labor Day weekend, it was very busy. Multiple pools which included an adult only but kids were in lol.. the hot tube is located by the family pool so it was full of kids most of the holiday. Pool bathrooms were not maintained and smelled of urine.

Great weekend

My husband and I went on our first childless vacation and it was everything we needed. The resort is gorgeous, loved the activities (bike rentals), and customer service.

Loved Wild Dunes. Wish that they would have more activities for the kids (at no cost). Beach and pools were wonderful.

Do not waste your time and money eating on resort - the food is merely average-to-subpar, and costs way too much for what it is. I expect hotel prices to be slightly inflated (on the order of 25-50%) - not 3-5x what I could spend if I drove 10 minutes away.

The room was clean, quiet, and spacious-enough for our needs. The patio we had was enjoyable (until the sun went down and the bugs came out in force).

My only room complaint was regarding the bathroom. We had a handicap-accessible room (last available when we booked), but the roll-in shower had such a splatter problem, that we needed 4 towels just to keep the water contained and the floor from being *very* slippery!

The staff everywhere was great - from the parking attendants to front desk to waitstaff to maintenance/janitorial: everyone was very friendly and helpful, answering questions and attempting to accommodate requests or pointing to someone who could.

Nice enough, but extremely overpriced for what it is

Property has seen better days. Unit we stayed in was neither clean nor fully functional. Avoid eating onsite as it is overpriced for the quality and quantity. 

Outdated & Overpriced

Room wasn't ready at 4. Took over 2 1/2 hours to get suitcases to room. Pillows, bed frame, and couch had stains on them. Bed frame had mounds of dust. Towels and beds weren’t made each day. We asked to put sheets on pull out couch and they left us a bag of sheets. The list goes on but I’ve reached out to Hyatt with the full list of details. Only bright spot was a few of their valet and entrance gate personnel were very nice. Everyone else seemed to just be going through the motions. 

Summer Vacation

Wild Dunes Resort is a unique beautiful resort. The restaurants, coffee shop, sweet shop, pool side bar, lobby & rooftop bar were all great. Wish the rooftop bar was open later than 8. Great venue for a conference. Love there’s an adult only pool.
