The Heights Theater

This vast green space encompassing 160 acres provides a dose of nature just west of downtown, with gardens, hiking and biking trails, a nature play area, a dog park, public art and a grand lawn to catch events at the Hobby Family Pavilion. You'll also find a fascinating part of city history—Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, an 87,500-square-foot underground water reservoir transformed into public space for art installations, tours and performances.

Housing the extensive collection of its founders, this free contemporary museum featuring 10,000 pieces is notable for ancient, African and surrealist art. The grounds themselves are worth a visit, for a stroll amid sculptures planted among landscaped green spaces, as is the main building, designed by famed architect Renzo Piano.

The Menil Collection

Two miles north of downtown, this multi-venue complex hosts live music concerts and accommodates 1,000 inside or 3,000 fans on the lawn for outdoor performances.

White Oak Music Hall
