The Newman
Library of pleasures
Writers' block
In the literary heart of London — where the likes of Virginia Woolf and Dylan Thomas sought their inspiration — The Newman is slated to be something of a masterpiece itself. Its art-deco doors are due to open early in 2026, with meticulously crafted interiors that subtly salute Fitzrovia’s legendary characters, an anticipated restaurant set to serve seasonal fare, and restful rooms that’ll lull you into la-la land almost as easily as the hotel’s spacious subterranean spa.

Play your own game of dress up and craft illustrious characters for evenings at Angelica. Gambit Bar calls for checks and a well-considered next move.
Hotel Restaurant
The hotel’s subtle homage to Fitzrovia’s renowned names doesn’t stop with Brasserie Angelica — a set-to-be buzzy restaurant infused with art deco accents and named after Virginia Woolf’s niece. But it isn’t just the author whose title carries weight around here; head chef Christian Turner hails his own list of accolades from a lengthy stint with the Wolseley Group. Menus are still being finalised, but they’re expected to ebb with the seasons — to make the most of local and sustainable ingredients — and will focus on polished European classics.
Hotel Bar
Angelica’s adjoining bar is brushed with a handcrafted copper top and a low-lit, convivial ambience. There are craft cocktails and a curated selection of wines, as well as draught beers and full service from its eponymous restaurant. But it’s down the spiral staircase and through the mirrored tunnel that this hotel’s bar scene comes into its own. Gambit’s interiors are inspired by New York’s 1920s speakeasies, with cosy booths, hand-drawn illustrations and a small stage that’s rumoured to host jazz nights and live music.
Last Orders
Angelica serves breakfast from 7am–11am; its sandwich trolley makes the lunch rounds 11am–4pm, and dinner service runs between 4pm–9.45pm. Angelica’s bar starts pouring at 7pm and Gambit Bar is open 5pm–midnight, Tuesday to Saturday.
Room Service
Available around the clock.
Planes
Heathrow is your nearest international hub, with direct 35-minute links to Tottenham Court Road on the Elizabeth Line; or, it’s around an hour by car depending on traffic. London City and Gatwick are alternatives, but both require changes or a longer 60- to 90-minute drive. Staff can arrange private transfers from all three with advance notice and for an additional charge (starting from £150).
Trains
Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road are your local tube stations, both around a five-minute walk from the hotel. The Northern Line runs across the two, and the latter also sits on the Elizabeth and Central lines. If you’re travelling outside the city, London Euston is a slightly further 20-minute walk away and has long-distance routes around the country.
Automobiles
Given traffic and a multitude of charges, driving in central London isn’t the easiest of feats, so we’d suggest sticking with the city’s speedy public transport systems. If you are bringing your wheels, you’ll find a carpark on nearby Poland Street for £59.95 a day.
Worth Getting Out of Bed For
The Newman’s central locale puts London’s sights within easy reach. Start at the British Museum if you’ve a hankering for history; or switch out its hallowed halls for the Fitzrovia Chapel — a Grade II-listed building ornately dressed in aureate Byzantine interiors that date back to the 1740s. Creatives will have a field day flicking through the thousands of books and original caricatures at The Cartoon Museum, while chroniclers will find their inspiration at the Charles Dickens Museum.
A renowned blend of independent shops satisfies all fashion fiends around Soho and Marylebone, and for better-known names — like Liberty and Selfridges — head to neighbouring Oxford and Regent Street. You’re also within wandering distance of the West End’s tale-telling theatres, so be sure to check showings.
