Olakira Migration Camp
Right to roam
Ngorongoro to Serengeti
Where the wildebeest go, so too does Asilia Africa stay, Olakira Migration Camp. This primed-for-stargazing mobile camp follows the Great Migration, witnessing Mara River crossings from its northern Serengeti pitch, from June to October; then moving wholesale to Ndutu for calving season from December to March. The level of luxury camping on offer — hot showers ensuite, farm-to-fork dining, room service and WiFi — surely qualifies Olakira as a spectacle in its own right.
Once you’ve booked your safari stays, the Asilia team will be in touch within 48 hours, on business days, to help arrange travel between camps, which may include charter or private small-plane flights and/or overland transfers.

Our Favourite Rooms
To sleep in one of Asilia Africa’s Stargazer Suites at Olakira Migration Camp is as immersive as safari nights get: with your bed set up in the netted section of your tent, your pillowed perch has 270-degree views of the surrounding savannah and, to light your slumbers, a star-freckled sky overhead. Family Stargazer Suites follow the same format, connecting neighbouring tents for adults and children via an enclosed passageway.
Packing Tips

Food & Drink
Top Table
Your tent’s private deck is pitched to catch the African sunset, so that’s where we’re settling in for aperitivo hour. For dinner, the cheering sociability of swapping the day’s tales with fellow campers renders your choice of table irrelevant.

Hotel Restaurant
Expect farm-to-fork dining that showcases seasonality and is proudly low on food miles. A commitment to sustainability and a celebration of local, indigenous ingredients underpin Asilia Africa’s approach to cuisine across all camps.
At Olakira Migration Camp, breakfast might be fresh fruits, yoghurt, muesli, freshly squeezed juices, baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches and wraps, with the option to enjoy hot dishes à la carte. For morning game drives, a packed breakfast will be provided.
Across all Asilia Africa camps, the menu changes by the day; at each meal, there’ll be a choice of starters, mains, sides and desserts, with vegetarians as well served as meat eaters. Lunch on Wednesdays and dinner on Sundays are a distinctly Swahili affair, spotlighting local culinary traditions. If you have food preferences or dietary requirements, the camp’s kitchen team will be happy to adapt dishes to suit.
Hotel Bar
There's no bar at Olakira Migration Camp, but the retreat’s sociable lounge and dining tents host drinks among the company of fellow safari-goers, or you can choose to sip your sundowners from the privacy of your tent deck.

Worth Getting Out of Bed For
From December to March, Olakira Migration Camp is in its southern setting at Ndutu, in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Here, a story of life and death unfolds, as manifold wildebeest calves are born and wily predators lurk in hopes of an easy meal; scheduled game drives are included with your stay. Book a dedicated photographic vehicle to capture the action with your long lens; or get a sense of the herd sizes with a hot-air balloon safari. Cultural visits to local communities are an insightful extra. From Olakira’s northern base in Serengeti’s Kogatende, a full-day excursion to meet Kurian tribespeople is a memorable foray. Open between June and October, the north is also the place to catch river crossings as thousands of zebras and wildebeest return to ford the Mara River and graze the Serengeti’s fresh grasslands.
In both its north and south camp settings, Olakira is poised to knit together two more thrilling Asilia camps, where the safari experience is as varied as the geography. Start with three nights at The Highlands, in Ngorongoro Conservation Area, for crater hikes and starred game viewing, before heading to Olakira Migration Camp for three nights. You could then tag on a further three nights over the Kenyan border at Rekero Camp, which perches above a significant crossing point on the Talek River in Maasai Mara.
