Rates at Stockton Inn usually exclude breakfast, which can be bought at neighboring Stockton Market for around $20. The hotel and its restaurants are open from Wednesday to Sunday, and there’s a two-night minimum stay over weekends.

Our Favourite Rooms
Stockton Inn’s notable legacy has made it a convivial hub for singers, writers and, now, foodies. But the buzz of story-telling chatter subsides in its soft-hued rooms, which soothe with exposed stonework and local artwork. Room One, a Main Inn King, is spacious and bright, and has a shared balcony, bouclé chaise lounge and his-and-hers sinks. Room Seven in Carriage House Two has all the frills for a cozy sojourn: vaulted ceilings, a freestanding bath tub, and a gas fireplace.

Welcome, but this epicurean retreat is better suited to grown-ups. There’s a double sofa-bed in Carriage House Two’s suite, which can be made up on request; free baby cots can be added to all rooms except Room 5.

Hotel Restaurant
Like a good date, your hosts at Stockton Inn will wine and dine you. Fine Finch is an intimate space for seasonal dinners, masterminded by chef Bob Truitt. The four-course menus change often, but you can expect to find fusion fare such as sunchoke mezza luna pasta with brown butter, alongside pan-roasted kampachi with sea urchin crema. A step above your average pub, Dog & Deer Tavern is a refined-yet-relaxed spot for American classics with Finch’s same Earth-kind approach. Share — or fight over — East Coast oysters and maple-butter brioche; the Comté-topped patty melt is a local favorite. Though you’ll want to save room for both, we don’t advise holding out till evening; the hotel’s Stockton Market lies just across the street and supplies breakfast brews and snacks, plus healthy all-day dishes.
Hotel Bar
When it comes to drinks at Stockton Inn, the (figurative) bar is high: Brian Miller is a big name in the bartending world, and is stirring up new and lost-to-time creations at Dog & Deer Tavern. The Jack Rose is a modern version of a cocktail that dates back a century; at the Inn, it’s now laced with apple brandy, framboise liqueur and Domaine de Montreuil calvados. You’ll also find a list of around-the-world wines and spirits, plus close-to-home craft ales.
Last Orders
Both restaurants are dinner-only and open Wednesday to Sunday, from 5pm until 9pm; Dog & Deer Tavern pours drinks until 10pm. Booking in advance is recommended for both.
Planes
Trenton-Mercer Airport is a 25-minute drive from Stockton; Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia International Airport and New York City’s Newark Liberty are each an hour away by road.
Automobiles
You’ll want your own set of wheels for taking in the region’s picturesque towns and hiking trails, plus NYC is under a 90-minute drive away. There’s free parking with electric-vehicle charging points at the hotel.
Worth Getting Out of Bed For
You’ll be encouraged to embrace a slower pace of life at Stockton Inn. If you’re an out-of-towner from New York City or Philadelphia (each under a 90-minute drive away) who’s struggling to shift gears, toss a coin into the historic wishing well and ask fate to intervene. Pootle around petite Stockton, or head to riverside neighbors Frenchtown and New Hope to mooch in charming boutiques and cafés. A long, leafy towpath runs along the Delaware River, an idyllic route for rambles, cycles or horse rides. After an active day, you might like something to take the edge off: check the hotel’s calendar for cocktail-making masterclasses with the Brian Miller.
