Hidden Hills Villas
Voyage-inspired villas
Lush Uluwatu lookout
Hidden Hills Villas is a hot-ticket hideout, with individually styled private pads that are crafted by a jet-setting mother-son owner duo, who have sourced their design cues from all over the world, from Japanese minimalism to Balearic bohemianism. But the locale is undoubtedly Balinese: evergreen hills, surfer-dotted shores and place-to-be beach clubs are just a transfer away. The globe-trotting resumes at the Californian-fusion restaurant and wine bar, where a staggering list of imported vintages will quench more than your thirst for adventure…

Our Favourite Rooms
You might be in Bali, but the interiors in each private casa at Hidden Hills Villas are inspired by international hotspots, so you’ll wake up in the Seychelles, Ibiza or Tulum. One-of-a-kind headboards are the centrepieces to the Studio Bedroom Garden View Villas: in ‘Monaco’, the starburst-like structure has been touched by Midas, and the ceiling-reaching wood panels in ‘Tokyo’ reference wabi-sabi design. For a taste of tradition, opt for one of the Raja residences — they feature intricately carved furniture, a poolside palapa with saffron-yellow sofas and a horizon-blurring infinity pool.
Poolside
The intimate, infinity-edge pool feels more like a tropical lagoon, with its wave-like edges, turquoise hues and greenery-swathed setting. Fairy lights are threaded above the water, casting amber orbs on the surface come evening, and you can soak up the ocean-blessed views from the sofa-dotted pool deck.
Spa
While the spa is being renovated, staff can arrange massages in your villa on request.
Packing Tips
Indulge in Bali’s spiritual side and bring a journal and some crystals; and you’ll want beach-club cover-ups and bikinis to blend in with its free-spirited set.
Also
Fitness fiends can stretch out in a poolside yoga class or limber up at the ocean-facing gym, which is open around the clock.
Crianças
Welcome. Babysitting can be arranged on request, and the Two Bedroom Ocean View Pool Villa and above are best for bigger clans. Up to two free baby cots can be added to villas; an extra bed is US$50 a night. Plus, all ages are catered to at Hidden Gem.

Top Table
You’ll get the best views of the ocean and surrounding greenery from the tables for two by the pool’s edge.
Dress code
Chic kaftans are all the modesty you need for breakfast or lunch at Hidden Gem, but glam up for dinner.
Hotel Restaurant
Hidden Gem’s farm-to-table fare takes cues from California, where you’ll find the resort's namesake, a stateside suburb renowned for its glitzy residents. And Hidden Gem draws an equally sparkly crowd (its owner is an actor, after all). Come morning, tuck into an Indonesian spread or down a day-starting smoothie; for the full camera-eats-first effect, staff can arrange a floating breakfast in your villa’s pool. Locally sourced produce forms the foundation for the all-day menu, with oyster platters, surf ’n’ turf and pan-Asian plates. The setting is a scene-stealer — the ocean backdrops the pool, and candles and fairy lights amp up the air of twinkly-eyed romance — but it’s the wine list that turns the most heads: a grand collection with a staggering number of wines by the glass. If you’d rather dine chez vous, your butler can take care of poolside barbecues and proposal-worthy dinners, with wine pairings in a petal-strewn setting.
Hotel Bar
Hidden Gem’s wine list is something of a rare find, especially for Bali: as well as big-hitter bottles, there are over 40 blends by the glass. In-the-know staff can suggest pairings, or you can opt for a liquid diet with a wine flight.
Last Orders
Hidden Gem serves breakfast from 7am to 11am, brunch from 11am to 2pm and lunch until 4pm; dinner is from 4pm to 11pm.
Room Service
You can dine from a separate menu in your villa between 7.30am and 11pm.
Planes
Denpasar’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is an hour’s drive from the resort; staff can arrange transfers on request.
Automobiles
Given the area’s hilly roads, you might want to stick to taxis and transfers. Should you hire a set of wheels, the resort has a few parking spaces and free valet services (just let staff know in advance if you’ll be arriving by car).
Worth Getting Out of Bed For
If you can pry yourself away from your private pool, you’ll find that the best of Bali is within easy reach of Hidden Hills Villas. Staff can arrange outings to the hot springs near Mount Batur, tours of temples and trips to beaches (and beach clubs). You could up the ante with some ATV riding, or a spot of surfing — the season in Uluwatu runs from April to October, and novices and seasoned surfers alike flock to the region’s wave breaks. For a taste of local culture, sign up for a cooking class or carve your own wooden souvenirs in a handicrafts workshop. Survey the beach-dotted coastline from clifftop Uluwatu Temple, which hosts traditional dance shows, before heading to one of the sandy shores below: off-the-beaten-track Bingin, surfers’ paradise Padang Padang or crystal-clear Dreamland.
