Mona

Fabric of life

Psirri garment district

Say hey to Mona in Athens, once a textiles factory in the Fifties, now a hipsters’ paradise in Psirri. The hotel is bringing back shabby chic and makes an art form out of peeling paint, exposed steel pipes and warehouse-size ceilings. Hang out with the in crowd (and acclaimed international chefs) in the laptop-friendly living room, spy the Acropolis up on the roof or decide which items you want to take home with you, since everything, from the teapot collection to the organic bedding, is (helpfully) for sale.

Our Favourite Rooms

All 20 rooms have a bath tub, but there are just three with a balcony – be sure to book one of these for the full alfresco Athenian experience.

Packing Tips

Most of the hotel (within reason) is for sale, so save suitcase space for everything except the kitchen sink. Popular purchases include the teapots, carpets and bedding.

Crianças

Children are welcome, extra beds for over-threes are available for an additional cost, but the hotel is more of an adult-friendly space.

Food and Drinks

Hotel Restaurant

An à la carte breakfast menu is served daily for guests in the lounge, on the roof or in your room. There are often visiting chefs gracing the kitchen area of the living room – with plans for regular lunch and dinner service rolling out soon.

Hotel Bar

Join the fun up on the roof where House of Shila’s most illustrious members come to let their hair down by drinking excellent cocktails and natural wines.

Planes

The city’s airport is a 45-minute drive from the hotel – transfers can be arranged.

Trains

You’ll be able to catch a train from the airport to Monastiraki’s station, which is also handy for getting around the city by metro.

Automobiles

A car isn’t necessary to explore Athens from this central stay, but you can stow it at a nearby car park if you need to.

Worth Getting Out of Bed For

Hanging out in the hotel’s lively lobby is an activity in itself – you’ll be able to meet fellow guests as well as artistic Athenians, admire the teapot collection or arrange a tour of the hotel’s many artworks; the staff can also arrange sound-healing and Thai massages. Twice a week, the rooftop hosts a gathering of the House of Shila’s members. The Benaki Museum of Islamic Art is nearby, as are the antique markets of Monastiraki and Avissinias Square, in case you haven’t stockpiled enough finds back at House of Shila HQ; or seek out treasures of an edible kind at Varvakios’ food-dispensing stalls.
