The Estate Yountville

Grape big estate

Napa Valley’s culinary capital

The Estate Yountville really is the full package – actually, this 22-acre oenophiles’ playground is several luxury deals wrapped up in one big Napa Wine Country stay, with a five-bedroom private villa and destination spa thrown in for good measure. With its olive-tree-lined walkways and trickling fountains, the Estate is reminiscent of a Tuscan village, where rooms and suites are spread throughout Hotel Villagio, and farmhouse-chic bungalows at rustic sister property, Vintage House. You’ll soon be seeing double – or triple – with three pools, two restaurants, and endless wine experiences on the Estate’s working vineyard and in Napa Valley’s tasting rooms.

Our Favourite Rooms

Choosing between the swanked-up stays at Hotel Villagio and the more rustic farmhouse-style rooms at Vintage House is a bit like deciding whether you’d like a glass of red or white. Villagio’s interiors are darker and deeper in palette and tone, while Vintage’s light-filled, vaulted spaces feel crisp and refreshing. To really soak up the vineyard views, we’d opt for the Villagio Estate Suite – the freestanding egg-shaped tub has swoon-worthy curving edges, and you can often spot hot-air balloons rising over the vines from the private patio.

Poolside

Hotel Villagio and Vintage House both boast heated outdoor pools (open daily and round-the-clock). Clinking glasses of cabernet can be heard from Villagio’s more spirited poolside scene, as wine-centric conversations flow from the loungers (and glowing fire pit after dark). Vintage House is an altogether more relaxed affair, where robe-clad guests pad around the pool in spa-style slippers and sink into a slumber induced by several grape-based cocktails. There’s also a private pool in the Estate’s villa, for utterly secluded swims and hot tub soaks.

Spa

The Spa, at 13,000-square-foot, is something of a wellness showstopper – crackling fireplaces and gently cascading waterfalls set a soothing scene. Mineral-stone massages, gold hydralifting facials, Hungarian moor mud wraps (and more) are delivered in a serenely styled network of 12 treatment rooms (including five private spa suites and couples’ suites with soaking tubs). Guests can also unwind in indoor-outdoor relaxation zones, eucalyptus-infused steam rooms, dry saunas, Swiss hydrotherapy showers, and alfresco Jacuzzis. Our pick of the bunch? The Estate’s signature organic grape-seed exfoliation treatment, inspired by the vineyard backdrop and packed with powerful antioxidants. There’s also an impressively equipped 24-hour fitness center tucked in between the two properties, with Peloton bikes, free weights, cardio machines, and more. Or you can bend with the vines at yoga classes held in the grounds.

Packing Tips

Bring your heartiest appetite – there are six Michelin stars within six blocks in fine-dining hotspot Yountville. Needless to say that you’ll be eating and drinking well here.

Also

Head over to Villagio’s bar between 5pm and 6pm on Thursdays and Fridays for free wine tastings with the Estate’s sommeliers.

어린이

Not technically adults-only, but underage guests might feel left out of the wine-fuelled antics here.

Food and Drinks

Hotel Restaurant

The Estate is as vast as its dining options are varied. Vintner and award-winning chef Michael Chiarello is behind the Italian menu at Bottega, which puts the very best of Italy on a plate using locally grown ingredients like cured olives and farm-fresh cheeses. The deep-red interiors are welcoming and rustic, lit by Murano chandeliers – and the outdoor patio is aglow at night, warmed by two stone fireplaces. Chiarello keeps café and pizzeria Ottimo (open daily between 10am and 5pm) more casual, with a relaxed menu of grilled paninis, homemade pasta, and wood-fired pizzas, plus a deli-style counter where you can stock up on artisan produce, cocktail kits, and signed copies of Chiarello’s cookbooks.

Hotel Bar

Dark beams, exposed brickwork, and lots of leather furniture set a sophisticated tone to the bar at Hotel Villagio (open Thursday to Saturday between 11am and midnight, and Sunday to Wednesday 11am and 11pm). As you’d expect, the wine list feels never-ending (in a good way), including bottles from the Estate’s working vineyard. The craft cocktails are fragrant with edible flowers picked from the bar’s herb garden, just steps from the pool.

Last Orders

Wine-and-dine options are available throughout the day.

Room Service

Order breakfast, lunch, and dinner to your bed between 7am and 9pm.

Planes

International arrivals should fly into San Francisco or Oakland, which are both just a 90-minute drive from the hotel. Sacramento is slightly closer, and is your best bet for US domestic options – and private charters can land at nearby Napa County Airport (just 20 minutes from the hotel by car).

Automobiles

Public transport is hard to come by in these parts, so it’s worth sorting a set of wheels (and a designated driver) to really savour Napa’s world-renowned wineries. There’s private parking at the hotel, plus valet parking.

Worth Getting Out of Bed For

The grape-laden vines of Napa Valley are within easy reach of the Estate Yountville – especially with the hotel’s e-bikes to borrow, so you could zip right to the trellis-covered doors of nearby wine-tasting rooms. Ask the concierge about their local winery partners, and seal the deal with discounts on an array of wine experiences at Jessup Cellars, Handwritten Wines, and Silver Trident Winery – all boutique producers specializing in handcrafted artisan labels. The Estate’s wine guides are also on hand to organize private vineyard treks around B Cellars, followed by barrel tasting and seated food tasting. Maps and custom audio tours of the Yountville Art Walk are available at reception, which walk and talk you through 35 large-scale works dotting the downtown. For an unforgettable Wine Country sunrise, take to the skies in a hot-air balloon ride and drink in the rolling vineyards from above.
