La Reserve 1785 Canggu
French quarter
Canggu coastline
An adults-only francophile’s fantasy in Indonesia, La Reserve 1785 Canggu is the former home of Mademoiselle Henriette Reboul, reimagined by its new owner-architect with characters from the Marvel Universe, tomb-like (in a good way) spa-treatment rooms, a signature scent and traditional tropes from East Timor. The high-ceilinged suites take you back in time, with stationery sets encouraging the penning of a letter home in lieu of a social-media post. It’s so peaceful, even the birdsong stops when it’s siesta o’clock.

Food & Drink
Top Table
Enjoy a drink and a leaf through the library books in the open-air lounge, or admire the temples in the Purity Garden from Le Café Rouge.
Dress Code
French fancy.
Hotel Restaurant
Not to be mistaken for a certain restaurant chain, Le Café Rouge is far more stylish than its high-street counterpart, designed in homage to Henriette’s red boudoir (but not quite as saucy as that sounds). French-Asian fusion dishes include curveball Nordic tartines and burrata, chicken-fried rice and mezze platters.
Hotel Bar
There’s no separate bar, but drinks are served in Le Café Rouge and at the library.
Last Orders
The restaurant is currently open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, from 7am until 10pm.
Room Service
Food can be served in your room during restaurant opening hours.
Planes
From Bali’s main Ngurah Rai international airport, the drive time is 45 minutes. Hotel transfers start from IDR 700,000 each way for two passengers.
Automobiles
Scooter is the preferred mode of transport in these parts, but if you have come by car, there’s street parking available nearby.
Worth Getting Out of Bed For
The hotel is less than a kilometre from Pererenan Beach, with daily buggy shuttles on request. It may be tricky to mount a surfboard onto a scooter, but some of the best surfing spots in Bali are within two minutes away on two wheels. The team will also be able to sort horse-riding, diving, trips to surrounding rice fields or the Hindu temple of Tanah Lot, and yoga, meditation and Pilates.
