M Lodge
Basecamp à la mode
Near the gondola
Savoie hotel M Lodge is a bit of a looker: not just in its thoughtful design — an enticing textural tour of caramel timbers, slate, marble and fondle-me fabrics — but in its picturesque Tarentaise setting, too, with breathtaking valley views from its balconied rooms. And yet the hotel’s appeal goes beyond the superficial. With a restaurant you’ll want to dine in every night, multi-room options for families and a top-notch Valmont spa, M Lodge is an alpinist’s dream refuge.

Spa
A welcome foil for the exertion a day in the mountains can bring, Spa du M is a timbered complex with mountain views on the lower level of the hotel, home to a photogenic lap pool beside a 50-square-metre terrace, a sauna and gym, plus tucked-away rooms, where Valmont face and body treatments (a Swiss spa brand) are deftly executed.

Top Table
Low-slung curvaceous armchairs in the bar encourage staying put. Such is the cosy low-lit ambience in the restaurant that all tables come with a side of intimate romance.
Dress Code
Suitably arresting colours or statement knits to complement the drama of your surroundings; a little shimmer or embellishment won’t look out of place at this glamorous address.
Hotel Restaurant
Table du M barely closes its doors – its marble-top tables are available for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, apéro hour and dinner. Glass-globe pendant lights and walls curated with colourful art bring modern flair to this cosy timber-lined space. Chef Clément Hericotte oversees a menu of tapas such as labneh with flatbreads, savoury beignets and arancini du jour. Order a Japanese platter of sushi and sashimi with apéritifs and linger over hearty mains such as confit shoulder of lamb, slow-cooked braised beef with fondant potato and John Dory sautéed in seaweed butter. Favourites such as shellfish linguine and tartiflette are always on the menu.
Hotel Bar
Beside the restaurant, tub chairs set around marble-top tables welcome guests for apéro hour at 6pm. A French-led wine list is bolstered by an impressive line-up of spirits, including a wide choice of whiskies and rums.

Worth Getting Out of Bed For
Made up of 22 hamlets, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville has been inhabited for centuries and a heritage walk around the village reveals much about its past from the 17th-century baroque church to its bath house and village oven. A guided snowshoe walk is ideal for discovering the terrain surrounding the village. Winter adventures from dog sledding to paragliding to night rides on a snow groomer are all on your doorstep. As well as access to skiing and snowboarding in one of France’s biggest ski areas, the resort is linked with Les Menuires just up the valley, and you’ll find an ice rink at Val Thorens, as well as tobogganing hills at La Croisette and Les Bruyères. Summer brings hikers and mountain bikers to town as well as those seeking high-adrenaline thrills such as rafting and canyoning, biathlon, high ropes and zip-lining all on offer nearby.
