Oliver's Camp
Safari stalwart
Baobab-blessed floodplains
Named after Serengeti enthusiast Paul Oliver, Asilia safari stay Oliver’s Camp is a cornerstone of Tanzania’s game scene. Like its seasonally changing Tarangire National Park surroundings, this thoughtful camp has evolved over the decades, but its latest iteration impresses with contemporary canvas suites, walking safaris and night game drives. With its seamless set-up, your wish for poolside sundowners, romantic bush dinners and sunrise hot-air balloon rides is simply Asilia’s command.
Once you’ve booked your chosen stays, the Asilia team will work to be in touch, on business days, within 48 hours, to help arrange travel between camps, which may include charter or private small-plane flights and/or overland transfers.

Our Favourite Rooms
At Oliver’s Camp, the tent’s traditional interiors — dressed in earthy hues and wooden accents — seamlessly blend with the natural landscape beyond. Plus, an alfresco shower at each brings you even closer to the outdoors. The two-bedroom Family Tented Suite is best if you’re travelling with little ones.
Poolside
The outdoor pool will swiftly become your preferred watering hole: its sunset-facing sunloungers also overlook the Tarangire plains, and alongside invigorating dips, you’ll find refreshment at the poolside bar.
Packing Tips
A thrill-seeking streak: beyond your expected safari schedules, you can up the ante with hot-air balloon rides and night game drives.

Hotel Restaurant
Expect dining that showcases seasonality and is proudly low on food miles. A commitment to sustainability and a celebration of local, indigenous ingredients underpin Asilia Africa’s approach to cuisine across all camps. Breads, cakes and even ice-creams are made freshly in-house, and dishes are always paired with South African wines.
At Oliver’s Camp, breakfast might be a picnic in the bush consisting of fresh fruits, yoghurt, muesli, freshly squeezed juices, baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches and wraps. But if you're staying in camp, you also have an option to start your day with hot dishes à la carte.
Across all Asilia Africa camps, the menu changes by the day; at each meal, there’ll be a choice of starters, mains, sides and desserts, with vegetarians as well served as meat eaters. Lunch on Wednesdays and dinner on Sundays are a distinctly Swahili affair, spotlighting local culinary traditions. If you have food preferences or dietary requirements, the camp’s kitchen team will be happy to adapt dishes to suit.
Hotel Bar
At any hour in the main area, staff are on hand to pour drinks, which you can sip in the reading nook, out on the plains-gazing terrace or around the fire pit. You’ll find a formal bar by the pool; here, sunset aperitifs are particularly scenic, with the added pleasure of having them served to your sunlounger.
Last Orders
Rather than working to set hours, meals fit around your plans and staff are happy to flex to meet your wishes.

Worth Getting Out of Bed For
Set in the south of Tarangire National Park, Oliver’s Camp is remote yet easily accessible to the Silale Swamps and its remarkable wildlife — big cat, buffalo and elephant, to name a few. Spy the region’s stellar residents on seasonal walking safaris and open-vehicle game drives; those at night bring extra excitement. Sunrise hot-air balloon rides are worth setting you alarm for, with their bird’s-eye view of the Tarangire floodplains. You can also learn about both meanings of ‘pride’ in a visit to Tarangire Lion Research Centre, where experts will explain how they protect local populations through conservation work.
Starting with the up-close and intimate nature of safari in Tarangire National Park, after three nights at Oliver’s Camp, head to the sweeping rockscapes and abundant game of Ngorongoro Conservation Area for three nights at all-frills camp The Highlands. Ngorongoro and Serengeti are a classic double act, so completing your trip with three nights at northern Serengeti’s Namiri Plains is a finessed finale.
