NASCAR Hall of Fame

Pay your respects to the legends of stock car racing at this new museum and sports center, now a major tourist attraction for fans of high-octane thrills and racing excitement. Racecar drivers, famous crew chiefs and major owners are honored at this state-of-the-art NASCAR museum. The NASCAR Hall of Fame opened in Charlotte in May 2010, and ever since it has attracted throngs of racing fans who come to pay tribute to their heroes, explore the history of stock cars, and ride racecar simulators. You’ll also find special events, driver appearances and films that highlight NASCAR’s important contributions to American culture.

Discovery Place

Spend a fun, family-friendly afternoon at this incredible science museum and learn about our amazing world through a host of interactive exhibits, shows and educational programs. Along with an IMAX theater, 3D films and live shows, you’ll find numerous exhibitions that make learning fun. See jellyfish float gracefully underwater and touch starfish, experience wacky physical phenomena, explore collections of amazing nature and manipulate molecules in a lab setting. Located in the Fourth Ward in the city center, Discovery Place in Charlotte will appeal to adults and children of all ages.

Mint Museum of Art

With an inspiring collection from around the globe, this incredible set of museums features works from the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. Peruse extensive collections of art and design, including ceramics, fiber, glass, wood and metals. Comprised of two museums, the Mint Museum Randolph and the Mint Museum Uptown, Charlotte’s world-class collections draw art enthusiasts from far and wide. The Mint Museum’s collection of decorative arts is considered the finest in the country, and you’ll find exhibits of pre-Columbian artwork, 18th century fashion, North Carolina pottery and much more.

Carolina Aviation Museum

Situated on the grounds of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, this fascinating museum will appeal to aviation enthusiasts with a smart collection of historic aircraft. With more than 50 stationary aircraft and many more historic exhibits, the North Carolina Aviation Museum focuses on the aviation history of the region. Explore Cold War military aircraft and historic planes from as early as 1950. You’ll also find a group of active aircraft, which do flight exhibitions from time to time. While you’re there, you can watch jumbo jets lift off from the nearby airport, peruse historic photograph collections and sit in an actual plane cockpit.
