Greetings from the new General Manager
As of September 2018, Robert Hamer assumed the position of General Manager of Hyatt Regency Kyoto. Born in Sydney to Austrian and Australian parents, Robert started his career studying hotel management in Salzburg, Austria. Since joining his first Hyatt at Sanctuary Cove on Australia’s Gold Coast in 1988, Robert has worked for Hyatt International for more than 30 years. After opening Hyatt Hotels in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Hakone as well as working on brand revitalization, he has participated in important missions to Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Shanghai before returning to Japan for the first time in ten years.

"Hyatt Regency Kyoto will be my 6th workplace in Japan. I have traveled several times to Kyoto, but to live and work in such a beautiful place, basking in its amazing history and tradition, is such a great honor. I will continue to protect "the heart of genuine hospitality" cherished by Hyatt Regency Kyoto team and will elevate the charm of the hotel to new heights. I look forward to seeing you in the near future."

We have prepared a dish of rice cooked and seasoned with the ingredients of autumn, taken to new heights by the uniquely majestic aroma of matsutake mushrooms.

For the rice, we use Koshihikari rice grown in the Tango region of northern Kyoto Prefecture. The broth is made with makombu kelp from the Donan region of southern Hokkaido, and katsuobushi (dried, smoked skipjack tuna) from Makurazaki, Kagoshima Prefecture.

In a rice pot from pottery makers Nakagawa Ippento of Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, the rice is cooked to fluffy, lustrous perfection. We invite you to savor these mouth-watering seasonal aromas and a full-bodied flavor that deepens with every bite.

Beneath its cloth cover wrapping, the upper box will offer a selection of autumn flavors, including Japanese Spanish mackerel grilled with pepper, as well as teriyaki chicken, Japanese chestnuts, ebi-imo (shrimp-shaped taro root) and awabu (steamed wheat gluten with chestnuts). The lower box will be filled with three rice dishes: rice with mushrooms, saltwater eel sushi wrapped in a bamboo leaf and rice with young sardines. Taking this meal on a train would also be a great way to cap off a trip to Japan.

Hyatt Regency Kyoto has achieved TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence “Hall of Fame” status for receiving TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years.

Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations, restaurants and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.

The Certificate of Excellence accounts for the quality, quantity and recency of reviews submitted by travelers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
