Hangetsu Lake

Winter or Summer beautiful Hangetsu Lake is a wonderful forest walk on the slopes of Mt Yotel. A 10-minute drive from the hotel. You will need snow shoes to walk in winter season.


Hirafu is a Onsen heaven! There are various indoor and outdoor pools, mostly segregated, occasionally mixed. Don’t leave Hirafu without trying an Onsen. Do check with the team if you are unfamiliar with the etiquette.


A historical port town with 1-hour drive to the north. It has great seafood, and is famous for its historical canal.

Yoichi Whisky Distillery

The famous Whisky distillery, an 1-hour drive to the north through wonderful countryside. Established in 1934. A wonderful historical distillery. In summer, Fruit Farms are everywhere in the surrounding countryside.


St Gallery

A 5-minute drive on the way to Kutchan. The Big Daddy of Hirafu’s art scene, paintings inspired by nature.


A 15-minute drive to Hanazono. Spectacularly set in a 150 year-old cliff top farmhouse.

The Green Season, May – September

Climbing Wall

Just 300 meters away from the hotel. There is an indoor climbing wall suitable for children and adults.


Either on the road or in the hills, Hirafu plays host to the Niseko Classic road race 70km/140km every July and the more fun and friendly Yotei Circuit Fun Ride. Bikes are available for hiring in the village. Cycling is a great way to get around and there are great options for half day self-guided trips.

Fly Fishing

Hirafu is one of the most accessible places to go fly fishing with Red Salmon, Brown and Rainbow Trout and even the elusive (and protected) Cherry Salmon in plentiful supply. Guides and tackle readily available in town.


Go with a local who can find and identify all sorts of wild herbs and vegetables growing in the forest. Make sure that you know your mushrooms!

A 15-minute drive to Kutchan. Architecturally very interesting set against the backdrop of Mt Yotei. Highly recommended.

Golf Driving Range

Just 3km from the hotel, The Hirafu Golf Center is a perfect place to whack a few balls.

Hanazono Golf Course

15 minutes away from the hotel. With stunning mountain views this is a wonderful par 72 golf course. Hit the private Onsen afterwards for the perfect post Golf reward.


Niseko is famous for wonderful countryside, and there is hiking suitable for all levels, the highlight for the fit and competent hiker is a summit attempt on Mt Yotei.

Shakotan Peninsula

One of the most scenic places in this part of Hokkaido. A 2-hour drive to the north from Hirafu. Sea Kayaking is the best way to explore the cliff lined peninsula. The sea here even has its own color, ‘Shakotan Blue’.

Shinsen numa marsh

We LOVE this area! 15 minutes away by car, a solitary morning walk along the boardwalk is a wonderful experience.

Stand Up Paddle

Beautiful Lake Toya is an hour away and its crystal clear water in an ancient Caldera is a wonderful place to paddle.

Tree Adventure Park

Hirafu’s most unique and adventurous activity. Consider trying ziplines, cargo nets, tightropes and swings! Not suitable for children under 140 cm.

White Water Rafting

The rivers in Niseko are famous in the spring. When the melt water brings the water level up and makes rafting an exciting and fun day for the whole family.

Cat Skiing

Cat-Skiing has arrived in Niseko in a BIG way. The best way to get into the untracked Back Country.

Snow Biking

A converted Dirtbike with a ski where the front wheel used to be and caterpillar track in place of the rear wheel! Great Fun for Petrol Heads.

Snow Shoeing

Wonderful exercise through the forest. Guided hikes available.

Snow Mobile

Pick up available from the hotel. A great petrol head experience in the mountains.
