Pop Up Paper Parade
08.13.2019 – 09.08.2019

Summer is on its way to Ginza with a special pop-up exhibition by Paper Parade Printing at the 4th floor library lounge.

Watch as letterpress-printed goldfish on strips of the world thinnest washi paper swim by—this washi paper is a mere 3.5 g/m2 thin, and is often used in artwork restoration specifically because it is so light and delicate. The artist utilizes the transparent, billowy quality of this washi paper to add movement to the goldfish and make them swim across our hotel walls.

Pop-up Store/Workshop

13:00 – 17:00 27 August

Join us for an opportunity to purchase special washi-made items and listen to Mr. Hiroyoshi Chinzei from Hidaka Washi Paper Co. speak about his craft.

 Paper Parade Printing

Art Director/Printing Director Atsushi Morita and Type Designer/Artist Yuriko Wada come together as a creative duo called Paper Parade, creating new meaning out of printing and paper design since 2017. Their creativity and innovation have brought them awards such as YouFab 2015 and the 2018 Best Work award at Applied Typography 28.

Tengu Washi by Hidaka Washi Paper Co. Ltd., Kochi Prefecture

Out of the three great washi-making areas of Japan (Koshimae washi from Fukui Prefecture, Minou washi from Saga Prefeture, and Tosa washi from Kochi Prefecture) Tosa washi is perhaps most well-known for its unrivaled thinness. This washi paper uses long fibers from the mulberry tree to create a paper so thin that it is said to only be as thick as a mayfly’s wing.
