Sabarmati Ashram

The biggest tourist attraction in Ahmedabad, the Sabarmati Ashram was once the house of Mahatma Gandhi. This is where you can see the three wise monkeys, plus many other teachings of Gandhi. Now a museum, the ashram houses handicrafts, archived letters written by Gandhi, hand-made paper and a spinning wheel factory.

Swaminarayan Temple

Statue of Unity

The Statue of Unity is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was the first Home Minister of independent India and the chief adherent of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent Indian Independence movement. With the opening of the Statue of Unity, dedicated to the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India just made its entry into the club of the tallest statues in the world. The destination is about 200 kms from Ahmedabad.

The Kite Museum

The Kite Museum was founded by Bhanubhai Shah for displaying his collection of rare kites, which he built up over 50 years. In this museum you can catch a glimpse of huge kites (around 7 metres by 5 metres or 22 feet by 16 feet). Another kite, which is a major highlight of the museum, is made using 400 pieces of paper. Some of the other kites in this museum were crafted with sequences of garba dances, mirror work and block prints. Hours: Tuesday to Sunday - 10:00 am and 6:00 pm
