Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies at Northeastern Illinois University

The Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) is located in Chicago's historic Bronzeville neighborhood. Established in 1966, CCICS is recognized worldwide as an African-centered institution of higher learning that maintains a scholar-activist tradition and a warm, caring educational climate. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Frederick C. Robie House

Situated on the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, discover the house Frank Lloyd Wright described as “a cornerstone of modern architecture” on guided tours that take in both the exterior and interior of the building. Inspired by the expansive landscape of the Midwest prairie, Wright’s Robie House is the most famous of the architect’s groundbreaking Prairie houses. Harper Theater

Listed on The National Register of Historic Places, Harper Theater first opened in 1913. Redeveloped in 2011, Harper Theater now serves as the community’s premier movie theater with 4 wide-screen theaters, bar, and snacks available at the concession stand.

Court Theater

Court Theatre is the professional theatre of the University of Chicago, dedicated to innovation, inquiry, intellectual engagement, and community service. Our theatre revives lost masterpieces; illuminates familiar texts; explores the African American theatrical canon; and discovers fresh, modern classics.

The Revival Comedy Club

Improvisational theater was born on the corner of 55th Street and University Avenue. In 2015, improv theater returned to its birthplace on the corner of 55th Street and University Ave. in Hyde Park exactly 60 years after it first appeared.

The Promontory

Gerald Ratner Athletic Center

Located at the southwest corner of Ellis Avenue and 55th Street, the Ratner Center serves as the home of the University of Chicago basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and swimming & diving teams. The facility 150,000 square-foot facility features a 1,658-seat competition gymnasium; the 50-meter x 25-yard Myers-McLoraine Swimming Pool; the Bernard DelGiorno Fitness Center with cardiovascular exercise equipment, selectorized weightlifting machines, and free weights; a multipurpose dance studio; competition and auxiliary gymnasia, plus classroom and meeting room space.

Track and Field Center at Gately Park

The Track & Field Center at Gately Park is a world-class track and field facility located in the Pullman community of Chicago. The 139,000-square foot facility has a seating capacity of 3,500 and features a hydraulically banked 200-meter track, a 4,000-square foot curtained warm-up area, eight sprint lanes, two long and triple jump runways and pits, pole-vault runway and pads, a high jump area, discus area, and scoreboard.

XS Tennis and Education Foundation

XS Tennis is the third largest indoor and outdoor tennis facility in the United States, and the first of its kind on the south side of Chicago. The XSTEF facility has 12 consecutive indoor courts, the longest stretch of courts in the world, along with 15 outdoor courts, including 4 clay courts. The facility is equipped with a 10,000 sq ft fitness center, designed to optimize the sports performance of our youth, while also possessing three academic classrooms to enable our youth to thrive academically in addition to their on-court success.

Metro Squash

MetroSquash is an 501(c)(3) out-of-school time and college success program that utilizes a long-term and holistic model to serve Chicagoland public school students with demonstrated need. The program is comprised of four essential youth-development pillars: squash & fitness (physical), academics & enrichment (academic), social work & supportive services (emotional), and college & careers (professional). The Hussain MetroSquash Center is Chicago’s largest squash facility and features 7 singles squash courts, 1 doubles squash court, 4 classrooms, office space, and a social work office.

CSO Multiplex

The CSO Sports Multiplex’s mission is to provide safe, impactful sport & fitness specific training for youth, young to middle-aged adults, and seniors. Our state-of-the-art facility provides a counternarrative to sports that stresses academic excellence and encourages the expectation to excel in both the classroom as well as the athletic arena. The facility was founded to allow individuals to play, practice, train, and participate in fitness classes, wellness sessions, and water programs utilizing one of the largest therapeutic pools in the city.
