Overview

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, was the first resort in the state of Hawai‘i, and one of only four resorts in the world, to earn its LEED-EBOM Gold certification in 2014. As a longtime leader in sustainability, Hyatt Regency Maui was also the first resort in Hawai‘i and the first large-scale beach resort in the world to become TRUE Waste Pre-Certified by USGBC.

Some water and energy saving implementations include:

  • Largest rooftop solar panel system in the County of Maui, generating 10% of the resort’s electricity
  • All 810 guestrooms equipped with high-efficiency and water closets, which save over 30% water when compared to conventional fixtures.
  • Use municipally treated greywater and hand watering for landscape irrigation
  • Provide reusable and 100% recyclable PATHTM water bottles in each guestroom

Waste and Circularity

  • Comprehensive three-bin waste diversion system in all common areas
  • Food scraps and waste are composted or donated to farmers for livestock feed
  • To-go food containers, utensils and straws are compostable
  • During 2020 renovation, hotel diverted over 2,500 tons of waste away from the landfill by refurbishing over 350 cast iron tubs and more

Prevent sunburn AND protect the ocean. Wear clothes with SPF protection. Apply and re-apply sunscreen often. Please note: Sunscreen containing the coral-harming chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned in Hawaii.
