Area Attractions

A major hub of southwest China, Chongqing is China’s largest inland megalopolis. Known as the Misty City, it is crisscrossed by rivers and mountains and is the launch point for scenic boat trips along the Yangtze River and Three Gorges. The Jiefangbei CBD of Yuzhong District is the beating heart of downtown Chongqing. Positioned at the confluence of two rivers – the Yangtze and Jialing rivers – and surrounded by water on three sides, it has become one of the leading business and financial centers of Western China. Guests of Hyatt Regency Liberation Square will find themselves on Chongqing’s liveliest doorstep. Rising beside Chongqing’s landmark Liberation Monument, the hotel is part of Metropolitan Oriental Plaza with direct access to a premier shopping mall and office tower housing key consulates. The hotel is also walking distance to Hongya Cave, the Yangtze River Cableway and Jiefangbei metro station.

Liberation Monument

The People’s Liberation Monument, known locally as Jiefangbei, is the only monument to commemorate the Chinese people’s victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Invasion. A central urban landmark of Chongqing, the octagonal structure is 27.5-meters high, with eight floors and 24 windows. The lively pedestrian street that has developed around the Liberation Monument is known as ‘The First Pedestrian Street of West China’ and defines Chongqing’s commercial heart.

Yangtze River Cableway

Riding the cableway above the Yangtze River is a unique Chongqing experience and insight into the city’s urban development. It was built in the 1980s to enable efficient transport between Yuzhong and Nan'an districts and affords spectacular views as you drift across its 1,166-meter span.

Hongya Cave

With a history stretching back over 2,300 years, Hongya Cave showcases traditional stilted architecture leaning against a mountainside by the rivers’ edge. Within its atmospheric streets, visitors can discover delicious Chongqing snacks and specialties, such as Chongqing hotpot, hot and sour rice noodles and walnut cookies. The area is particularly spectacular at night when the buildings shine with colorful lights and lanterns.

Chaotian Gate

At the tip of the Yuzhong Peninsula where the muddy Yangtze River meets the clear green waters of Jialing River, Chaotian Gate is the only remaining city gate and Chongqing's chief wharf on the Jialing River. The unique landscape, cultural significance and busy river traffic make this an intriguing place to visit during your Chongqing stay.

Guanyinqiao Tourism District

One of the major shopping districts of Chongqing, the bustling area features numerous malls and department stores, a wide variety of tasty dining options from street food markets to sit-down restaurants, plus entertainment and fun for all ages.

Dazu Rock Carvings

Cherished as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dazu Rock Carvings sites are located in Chongqing Municipality within the steep hillsides throughout Dazu County, about 60 kilometers west of the urban area of Chongqing. Highlights of the rock grottoes are found on Mount Baoding and Mount Beishan.
