Wedding Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you perform ceremonies on the beach?
The Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa Weddings department coordinates weddings only on our tropical grounds, ensuring a private and beautiful location for your special day. If you prefer a beach wedding we would be happy to refer you to a local coordinator who would be able to organize a beach ceremony for you.
Please call the Grand Hyatt Kauai Weddings Office at 808-240-6339 to check for availability. To reserve your date, please complete the contract and reservation form included in our Wedding Planner, and send the information to us along with a $1000 non-refundable deposit.
It’s just the two of us, do I still need a package?
To keep in line with Hyatt’s high level of service, we do require that you choose one of our wedding packages. They are designed to suit weddings for parties of 2 or 200. While we can enhance our packages, no substitutions or deletions will be allowed.
What is the weather like?
The temperature in the summer ranges from 80 to 90 degrees, while in the winter months temperatures range from 70 to the mid 80s. While it does tend to rain more in the winter months of November through February, it does rain year round which is what keeps the Garden Island so beautiful!
What happens if it rains?
For all events that are booked outside, we hold proper backup space in the case of inclement weather.
How do I obtain a marriage license?
Your Wedding Coordinator will make an appointment for you based on your arrival to the island. There is no waiting period for a marriage license and no blood tests are required. State Law requires proof of age; you must be at least 19 years of age. Both the bride and groom must be present with a photo ID to obtain a license. Please visit www.hawaii.gov/doh to obtain a marriage license application. You’ll need to bring this to your appointment along with the license fee of $65.00, cash only. You must receive a marriage license in the State of Hawaii.
When should I arrive on the island?
We recommend arriving at least two days prior to your wedding to allow time to get your marriage license and to meet with your Wedding Coordinator.
How far in advance should I begin planning?
We will accept reservations up to one year in advance of your wedding date. We are happy to begin planning with you at any time; we recommend two to three months before you arrive on island.
Can I bring in my own vendors or food and beverage?
We do allow you to bring in your own vendors should you wish. Your officiant needs to be registered with the Hawaii State Department of Health. We do charge a $250 site fee for an outside photographer or videographer. All food and beverage must come from the hotel.
What do I wear? Can I rent tuxedos or dresses?
There are tuxedo shops on the island to rent from. We do suggest having your measurements done at home so you can order the tuxedo ahead of time. Unfortunately, there are no bridal shops to buy or rent dresses. It can be very warm, so we suggest wearing lighter linens. It can also be very windy, and long veils can get tangled up easily. The gazebo is outside in a garden and the ground is soft, so we suggest wearing flat shoes or wide heels that will prevent you from sinking.
