The Hula

Throughout the generations, hula has taken on different forms and styles. The kahiko, or traditional hula of Hawaii, dates back to the early 1800s when it was the kane, or the men, who practiced the art of hula. Their steps reflected the movements of the warriors-similar to the martial arts of Polynesia known to the natives as lua. As hula evolved, women performers were included. Enjoy the rhythmic movements of Hawaii using the`uli`uli or feathered rattling gourds and let our dancers show you just how to do the hula.
