Dubai lies at the very heart of Arabia and is the leading centre for business and tourism in the Middle East. It is the second largest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Located on the shores of the beautiful Arabian Gulf, Dubai is a city-state, built between the desert and the blue-green waters of the Arabian Gulf. It retains the ancient Islamic heritage amidst the architectural wonders of a modern, cosmopolitan city of almost 1.4 million people.

The "Pearl of the Arabian Gulf", concentrated mainly around the Dubai Creek, the finest natural shelter on 1600 km of coastline, ranks as the most important port and commercial centre in the UAE.
